Ask user before updating links (AI 26.0.1)
When opening a file containing linked images that have been revised AI will automatically update images without any alert.
This is pretty dangerous for anyone working with a team or refer/update old projects.
Would love to have it ask me first or at least tell me which links were updated. Something to create awareness that things have changed since it was last opened.

I appreciate that Dina. That still works for me if the ai file is open when the link is being updated.
My issue is changes to links when the ai file is closed.
Just checked my preferences, it was set to “Ask when modified”. I tested that and “Manually” just now. Both times it updated without alert.
Steps for Adobe to mimic should they be playing along: (AI 26.3.1 now)
1: Create an ai file that includes a linked image. (I used a jpg)
2. Close ai file.
3. Change jpg in photoshop and save over.
4. Open ai file.I would expect the result to be a link icon with the yellow circle and possibly a text box asking if I would like to update links.
My actual results have been the link reflects the change from step 3 immediately without notice.

um... there is actually a preference for that. See screen shot attached. Use manually, or ask when modified. I know it looks like it only refers to the anti-alias pref above it, but it's global.
Once you save your linked file, it looks like the second screen shot, where it turns the link icon into the yellow circle with the circular arrows in it, indicating that it needs to be updated. It takes a few seconds to update to the yellow circle, just be patient.
