Color swatch import bug
To illustrate the bug - I have a file named logo and a file named base. Both have swatches named PRIMARY and SECONDARY (see attached). As I place the logo into the base file - even as a preview - the PLACED file adopts the swatch colors of the base file. I literally need to do the opposite. I need the base file to adopt the swatches of the placed file. Needs to have an option to REPLACE swatches.

What happens now... now we wait until Ai fixes other urgent bugs until this one gets picked, if ever picked. Unfortunately the list is stupendously long, and there can be several years until it happens.
The team tires to pick these up on the way, but the bandwidth is limited.
Generally, the more votes the request gets, the higher is the chance for it to be proceeded.
Try to bring more attention to it and hope for the better. Sadly, this is as much as much I can promise. The idea is nice and I hope it gets noticed. -

Yes! If the placed document has the same name for swatches - ask the user which swatches to use for merging. I imagine not per swatch but all at once with a simple import options dialog.
This could be a real game changer. Templates that you could import a logo into and adopt the logo colors throughout the design—confident that the swatches used are the correct ones.. Thanks for your feedback. What happens now? This is my first experience with uservoice. Let me know. Thanks again! -
So you offer Ai to track if the placed document have the same names for swatches and ask a user, which one does he want to use for merging, am I correct? Per swatch or for all at once, with a simple dialog?
This sounds plausible to me.Thanks for bringing this up. I can imagine what problems it could have been causing, especially when the difference between colors is not that prominent and you have a lot of them.

I am not proposing the child control the parent as a default - but as an option.
As it stands currently, I could import a color critical brand logo, and Illustrator would change the logo's color values without warning or option to choose which swatch values to use.
We could discuss offline what problems this may have caused in the past - but I contend that fixing this "bug" could actually become a powerful feature.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you for your comments! -
Perhaps it can’t be done that easily or at all... what happens if you place another file with another values for the same named swatches? Which child then should control the parent? The latest one? The first one? It will bring more chaos that control, if a child will be allowed to perform such a backwards inverted logic, to have the parent adapt the data from the child...
How do you plan to solve this?
