Incorporate a shortcut inside gradient's panel
I would like to suggest to incorporate the shortcut D for "reset" the 2 initial colors inside the gradient's panel to system standard colors (black and white). I usually use as a last step before finishing my artworks some shadows for a more realistic depth/aspect using black-to-white together with multiply. The D shortcut reset the main stroke and fill colors main swatches, so it would be a little bit faster if the software understands the D as this way while it's working on gradient's setup windows.

I can argue with that. But my trump it 'it’s here already and we don’t have to wait' :)
But seriously — I’d personally though of it as a bug. 'Illustrator loose my last gradient swatch when I hit D to set default fill and stroke' :D -

Actually, Egor, I meant specifically when the gradients panel is opened. I suggested this shortcut because it well known among users. And, by the way, thanks for the tip about using CTRL and clicking for reset. I never knew this, hahahaha - and it's as faster as using what I suggested. But I think it's far less intuitive than incorporating the D, no?

André, do you know about the way to reset the currently selected gradient back to default black&white, even if the swatch has been removed form the Swatches panel?
You can hold Ctrl and click the square in the top left corner of the Gradient panel to do it.
As usual with panel commands, it can’t be assigned to a hotkey or recorded into an action, so only clicking.
As for the resetting it with the D key — interesting... I wonder what workflows can it break though. I believe you mean that it get reset when you hit it whenever the panel is opened or not?
