Extract missing links from Ai editable PDF when opening it in Illustrator
PDF's saved from illustrator with 'preserve illustrator editing capabilities' do not embed any linked raster images in the Illustrator compatible component. When the PDF is opened in illustrator for editing, a message alerts that the links are missing, and low res images show when opened. The links are present in the PDF portion of the file and can be extracted manually and relinked. Might be a big ask, but it would be more ideal that Illustrator recognises the links are contained within the file, and is able to extract them automatically and embed them into the Illustrator component during opening.

I like your idea too. Mine is probably simpler to add, but would still require manual steps for everything to be embedded. When alert for either missing links or fonts come up when opening a pdf, I immediately hit cancel, open a new document and place the image instead. I was thinking there could simply be an option to 'cancel and place image in a new document' added to the dialog. see attached.

I would love if they added an option upon the file open to either relink the missing link or embed pdf compatible data (high res) into the file.
I don't want to have to open it up in acrobat every time and extract the link for my customer's supplied files because they forgot to embed the link or supply the linked file.
