Having '.2' at the end of a filename makes Save As dialog drop actual file type when saving
I need to save multiple Files withe Pos.1, Pos.2, Pos.3 etc.. Every time i want to save a file with the filename ".2" at the end wil not save the file.. In the Explorer will be the file but in a unreadable file type.
It turns out some application added '.2' as a file type, and Ai had to comply with it when auto-completing file names in OS-managed dialog.
Follow the solution in the comments if you have a similar problem.

Well, glad it worked.
So it’s some app saved .2 as a valid type, and Ai obeys the way OS handles auto-assignment of types in OS dialogs.
Marking this as 'weird' and 'resolved'.
Thanks for the report and don’t hesitate to add and upvote more! -

Thank you so much for your help

Tommaso, can you make more experiments, to check if it’s the same issue as this one, please?

Yes, probably UV has a limit. You can try a file hosting then.
Can you check if the format dropdown list in Save As dialog has something unusual?Or perhaps Windows recognize .2 as a valid file format on its own, perhaps some app has it registered?
It can be checked.
Press Win+R to open Run dialog.
Type 'regedit' (no quotes), Enter.
Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT category and search for '.2'
If it exists, make a copy of the registry (Fil > Export) and delete the entry. Perhaps a restart would be required then.
But that’s what I’d do — don’t take it as an official recommendation. -

I record a video.. you can see at the end I will write .pdf manually and it works but otherwise will not work - only with ".2"
>> Not able to send the .mp4 file is 56mb not possible?

Can’t reproduce it at all...
I try to save both PDFs, as you originally stated, and .ai files as well.
test.1.ai
test.2.ai
test.3.ai
...
These all get saved properly for me, the extensions are visible, nothing is truncated...
What if you manually add '.ai' or '.pdf' at the end of the file and try to open it — will it open/import/get viewed?
If it’s not too hard for you — can you please record this on video, just to make sure my steps are exactly the same? Something has to differ! -

Hi Egor, yes i have File Extensions enabled on Windows. No change if I disable it.
Also if I save the file in "Filename.2.ai" it will not work, but only with ".2" if I want to save another nr. like Filename.4 it works. It seems like that the ".2" will disturb something in the script.. if i save with "Filename2" will also work.I save the .pdf normally under File > Save as > See the screenshot

Tommaso, you are on Windows, correct? I believe you have 'Hide File Extensions' enabled in View menu in Explorer, am I right?
Does it change if you disable this option? How do you save these PDFs, which command and dialog?
Does it look the same if you save as .ai instead?
