Feature Request: Manual Adjustment for Pattern Brush Guide Path
I am a batik illustrator from Indonesia who uses Adobe Illustrator daily for creating intricate and detailed designs. Pattern Brush is one of the key features I rely on to develop seamless and repetitive motifs.
However, I have encountered a significant limitation: when creating a Pattern Brush, Illustrator automatically places the guide path (the green line) exactly at the vertical center of the artwork’s bounding box, without offering any option to reposition it manually.
This becomes a challenge when creating traditional batik designs, where the repeated elements need to follow a specific base line or custom flow rather than being centered. In many cases, the pattern must align to the bottom or other precise points, not the center, to maintain visual consistency and technical accuracy.
Therefore, I would like to suggest that Illustrator include a feature that allows users to manually set or adjust the position of the guide path within the Pattern Brush. This could be done either through a simple control (such as choosing Top / Center / Bottom) or by allowing users to define a custom guide path manually.
Having this control would greatly improve flexibility, especially for artists, textile designers, and pattern creators who require exact positioning of repeated elements. It would enhance the precision and open new creative possibilities for Illustrator users around the world.
Thank you very much for considering this improvement.

I like this request.
Currently we can include a no-fill no-stroke box (it doesn’t have to be square as I drew it), to control the position of the pattern module relative to its center.
The method works fine, but it requires some preparation and adds more fluff when expanding brushes for final output. The method with guiding line is not new, Reprofile plugin by Astute Graphics uses it: https://docs.astutegraphics.com/reform/reprofile-overview
They call it 'key path', and the profile editor allows to suppress it in the expanded result.
