An error occurred while saving the comment D. Bosveld commented@egor-chistyakov, I would like the setting to follow the system setting of holding shift to scroll horizontally, and ctrl to zoom.
I have never used any other non-adobe program that had ctrl for horizontal scrolling and alt for zoom.
In Illustrator, there is a setting to swap ctrl and alt "Force Enable Pinch-to-Zoom on Touchpad", but this setting is not quite what I'm looking for and does not have an equivalent setting in InDesign

Hi Everyone,
We have added a preference to enable ‘Zoom with Mouse Wheel’. Go to Preferences→ General→ Enable ‘Zoom with Mouse Wheel’.
Also, now you can pan the doucment using the middle click of the mouse.
Both of these functionality are available since January 2021 release (version 25.1) onwards.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback

Thanks for the suggestion to map that command, it doesn't seem to work how I would prefer. I can't seem to isolate an object without using the single select tool, but then it only appears to have the handles to move the box instead of changing its size. In regular select mode, it often selects the wrong item and isolates a clipping group which is not particularly helpful.
I would like to remove the amount of nested groups, but in this case I'm trying to edit a pdf as I don't currently have the original file used to create the pdf.
I would like to see 4 clicks in quick succession being parsed as two double clicks instead of one double click. I feel like this makes the navigation much more intuitive with heavily nested groups. This would make it so I could click in quick succession without pausing to drill all the way down to isolate a single object.
