164 votesThe team plans to push the fix from the Beta build into the main one in first week of January — hooray!
The current workaround in 29.1 is to disable Missing Glyph Protection option in Preferences > Type.

When I select a text box and change the font, I double-click to enter the text box to continue typing in the new font, BUT... it does not type in the newly-selected font. It switches back to the previously selected font. I do not know how this happens and I cannot figure out if I did something to make it do this.
Have no way of taking a screen video of this occurence.

It would appear that with the Ai (beta) it is back to functional as expected.
