The latest Beta Build 29.3.0.2 now offers a way to calculate the area, using the existing Measure Tool.
- Select the Measure Tool from the Toolbar.
- Click on a closed path to calculate its area (for now it has to have a fill, so the area is actually ink coverage)
- The calculated area will be displayed in the Info panel, shown automatically.
- To calculate the total area of multiple paths, hold Shift and click.
- Configure measurement options by accessing the flyout menu of the panel. You can customize units, precision, and scale to suit your requirements.
The team is looking forward to hear the feedback on this new feature — please try it out and make comments.

An error occurred while saving the comment Nick Rougeux commentedI have this problem as well. I can't reliably reproduce or trigger it but it happens. Nothing to my knowledge has changed the file.

Ideally, this would accommodate simple shapes and compound shapes including those with holes, intersecting, and multiple objects in one shape. Attached is a sample of the calculations I'd expect with basic squares but the logic would apply to irregular shapes too. Would be great to have this.
