CMD - CMD + : Zoom to center screen as in Previous versions
In new versions, CMD + and CMD - Zoom to center of a selected object rather than always the centre of the screen.
It would be great if the possibility to restore the old feature was given.
Thank you!

****, I feel the exact opposite! I much prefer zooming to the selection. How to achieve this now?
-
Wayne Kanipe commented
In my current version of Illustrator 23.0.1. The zoom tool doesn't work to zoom to center if I pull a square box with the tool, this is very frustrating and needs to be fixed. If I zoom in and out repeatedly my art work always ends up far to the right of my display.

you guys seem to be making a bunch of changes for the sake of itrecently. maybe to offer something new, but you have to realize that the vast majority or your users have many years experience on your programs and to unlearn many many years of behavior for a change that doesn't actually help at all is incredibly infuriating.
thanks goodness you've changed this back.just changing simple things like spacing in your tool bars, the user interface, selection methods, align functions, the shape of the arrow tools etc are really things that don't need to be done and they cause more annoyance than you probably realise. please consider your users before changing things. if it doesn't make workflow considerably better, then please don't change things.

There is an option in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display > Zoom To Selection. Please uncheck this to avoid zooming into selection.

For anyone struggling to find the option in Illustrator 22.0, Uncheck "Zoom to Selection" in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display.
Thank you Adobe for restoring this behaviour - I feel like I have my life back!!

Happy to see the Admin saying this option is coming. Really wrecking my workflow as I often need to zoom in on a detail to manipulate points while keeping a larger object selected (the center of which would be off-screen). Using the scrubby-slidey ctrl+space zoom as a stand-in right now but that's a little less predictable than just always zooming from the center of the display.
Oh, if it matters to anyone, I've been remapping the zoom in/out to F2/F3 for years. Makes it much easier to zip around my artboard using those and space with my left hand only.

Yes - this new zoom to selection feature completely sabotaged my flow. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a disable option. And return to previous zoom functionality. I'm not sure why anyone would find zoom to selection useful. When tweeking vectors you need to move in and out with (command - / + )

All my work goes to print of all forms and I do understand your issue, but for me this new approach is much better. An option to change cures it for all, but users need to make minor adjustments to the way they work sometimes.

Jason your intention is good, but you are not understanding the entire issue, as this does not work as in InDesign. In Illustrator when you drag zoom a marquee, this now does a zoom to selection. Those who produce artwork that goes to final print, understand they can no longer have a selection, and register the design against a printers die line, with one drag zoom. That is just one example of many as to why this does not work in the real world. The idea of zoom to selection is good, but the implementation is blaringly incorrect and does not consider real world issues. There is a way to implement both, but the prerelease needs to get back to a limited amount of experienced users as back in the 90s when one looked forward to Illustrator UPGRADES, not UPDATES in the new millennium.

we need it fixed. For example in a flowing way:
Spliting "Zoom" and "Zoom to selection" shortcuts. Example: Zoom in - Industry standard cmd/ctrl + Zoom to selection cmd/ctrl option/alt + or something you personally can change in shortcuts section of the main menu.
Adding a checkbox in preferences for disabling/enabling of the Zoom to selection. -

CTRL +/- now zooms to center of selection rather than where the cursor is located. This is disruptive to workflow to deselect the item, zoom, and then reselect. Please provide option to disable this feature.

Surprised. Was overjoyed to find zoom to selection as it's so much more useful than a random zoom in and out to where you usually don't need to be. Spacebar still does what it always did. Some confusion here (and dated workflows), I think. As software evolves, evolve your workflow. Adapt. It's easy. Similar behaviour to InDesign, so that's good.

Hmmmmmmm shiitake this might be a bug..... restarting all apps now. God I hope so... I would much rather eat my rant than have to use these apps (happening in indy too) everyday...

Apologies for the inconvenience caused.
A preference to disable "Zoom to Selection" would be available in the upcoming release of Illustrator; it should fix the issue.

I have used illustrator for freakin ever... you are changing the space bar + Command on me?... and not allowing me to kill that in a preference setting? Using spacebar to pull up the hand, to move the desktop around and then quickly adding command to zoom in and option key to zoom out are features that have been staples in this software.... Your users are talking about the ignorance of changing these features and not allowing us the ability to change them back... We pay out our arses to be your beta testers now? HEED THIS INTUITION*** Keep listening to those greedy board members and watch what happens to the future of your product... I have kids, they and their friends are into anime and illustration... Basically the future users of software for illustration and design... they are all talking about the best tools to use... and all of them are bad mouthing adobe, for not being available to them... the youth is your future... I was your youth once. Now I have become your bitter beta testing monkey... THANKS but NO THANKS!!!!! Give me the option to change back to a tool that makes my use of illustrator faster and more hands on... Hope you appreciate the passion here.

This program has become so frustrating.
Using the pen tool, ready to make another point for a line, and zoom in to get a closer view. Then - bang, sent to the top left, with my art way off the screen. This is maddening. I'm so tired of fighting with this program.
T%his using the latest version of Illustrator - CC17 - 21.1.0 on a Mac.
