    Just to be clear, it appears that Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign now all “silently” translate the PNG specification metadata into the more familiar PPI values that many are used to seeing.

    A PNG exported from AICC2018 (20.1) has the following metadata reported by ExifTool, which is to the PNG specification:

    [PNG-pHYs] PixelsPerUnitX : 11811
    [PNG-pHYs] PixelsPerUnitY : 11811
    [PNG-pHYs] PixelUnits : meters

    118.11 cm x 2.54 (cm to inch) = 299.9994 ppi – rounded up to 300 ppi
