hello everyone, I shared my experience on another post and I'm writing it here maybe it helps someone. I've had this bug for years in illustrator, and in my specific case it was related to my personal monitor profile. The problem disappeared completely when I created a new profile (in my case I used Xrite's iProfiler to create a new one). Most likely in many of the cases reported here the problem is the same and is related to a custom color profile. Obviously I know that it is not a valid solution for everyone but I repeat in my case it solved the problem. If you use a personal color profile try to make a new one or use a system one to see if the problem is solved.

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3

You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

Excellent start. I don't know if I remember correctly but the possibility of choosing where to insert the dimensions has disappeared (top, bottom, right and left). Furthermore, it would be very convenient to set the settings in millimeters instead of points (or at least have the possibility of choosing which unit to use) and what is fundamental for me is to set the distance from the object when using the one-click function via the option key (on Mac ). Last thing is the possibility of inserting the "Registration" color to the measurements.

I use this marsmedia plug-in https://www.marspremedia.com/software/illustrator/dimensions-illustrator and I am very happy with it. I can set up preset settings for different uses. I also call up the plug-in with a simple F key (via action) and then insert project measures with a simple key press. In my opinion, the most important thing about the new tool is the customization and speed of use (even from the menu).

in the latest version of illustrator, the measurement tool does not have the functions you describe ... I tried to follow your directions without success. When I select the measure tool the information window opens which tells me only the distance, no area, no perimeter and scale factor. Am I wrong something?

Excited to share that the requested functionality is now available in the public builds starting from V 28.3.0.

WIth the new Enclosed Mode, you can now select ONLY those objects which are completely INSIDE the marquee.

To activate the Enclosed Mode, just press 'E' ONCE after you start doing the marquee with the Normal Selection Tool or Group Selection tool.

    Please note that,

    1. The button E acts as a toggle, which means you just have to press E once, to get into or out of the enclosed mode.

    2. You have to press E only after doing the marquee, pressing E in empty canvas will invoke the Free Transform tool or the tool the shortcut 'E' is assigned to.

We made a lot of effort in building this capability, so please try it out and let us what you all think!

Great implementation! For those who work with montages of repeated elements, a similar function is essential! I can't wait to try it

    Hi All,

Thanks for reporting this issue, but as we are unable to reproduce the same inhouse, we would need some more information

    • Please share the details of the Ai version (desktop) you are using.
    • If possible , it would be helpful for us to reproduce the issue if you could share the files with which you constantly face the issue.
    • Please share system details and GPU details for the machine you are using.

    Warm regards,

    Aishwarya G Gadodia

I share these tests because they could help others with the same problem. I am now certain that the problem is due to personal display profiles which somehow affect Illustrator. I tried several personal profiles (not recent ones) saving them both at user and system level (since having Filevault activated on my Mac this often causes problems) and the problem persisted with the latest Illustrator version. This morning I created a new profile with the i1Profile application version 3.7 (latest released) and installed it on Sonoma (14.0) and Monterey (12.7). In my case the problem disappeared completely on both machines, and now everything works. At this point I think it could really be a writing problem in the software that creates the profiles which somehow affects the correct functioning of Illustrator. In practice: Try to create a new profile with the latest available version of the profiling software, install it and restart Illustrator. It is not necessary to restart the computer since the problem, if present, appears immediately with every profile change after starting Illustrator.

This bug has been present for years now and it's absurd how it still hasn't been fixed. By now I have adapted and use templates with or without rulers depending on the use, but it is absolutely not normal in a performance sense. The problem occurs not only with rulers but also with the artboard tool in the same way. It's nice to have high-performance computers and not be able to use them with the software you use every day for work. I confirm that in my case too the bug disappears using standard system profiles. When I use my personal one created with the XRite tool (and that is always) the problem persists.
