Starting from the February 2024 release, version 28.3, this option is no longer enabled by default for new documents. If you had hyphenation enabled in an existing document, Ai will respect this.

An error occurred while saving the comment David Shantz commentedIt is MUCH less likely that many users will want to have multiple options for measurement units. Preferences should establish what a user generally want. So once a user has set Pixels to the unit of measurement that should be the default. Then if another unit is set for a document - that single document uses that unit and follow the document. I don't think Points is very commonly used at all. it should not be the default. surely pixels is the most common. It is so annoyingly wasteful of time that this many users have taken the time to make a comment. Consider that it might be 1% of people who take the time.
Has anyone ever argued for keeping hyphenation as the default. Adobe: Listen to your customers... the reason for hyphenation to be off by default is this is an Illustration program. Hyphenation is more unlikely than in an application for publishing books and multi-page documents. Personally, I come back every few years and ask.. It's been more than ten. At least, make it an option so we can set it and forget it.. going to the preferences file doesn't seem to work permanently, and not for older docs.
