set pdf content active as helpers/rules when imported
As it's convenient to keep links to reference file, it's sometimes mandatory to attach/align new shape to points/path of the imported shape.
but by default the pdf content is not "live". it would be valuable to have this content live as it's possible for Glyphs or symbols...

Keep link when placing DXF/DWG file
Hi,
Could it be possible to keep the link to the original file when placing a DXF or a DWG in Illustrator?
The goal is to be able to update the view if the external file change...
having the geometry active like it's done for text glyph in order to be able to snap to geometry could be the cherry on the cake. Many thanks

include additional information in the XMP metadata to indicate image status (linked or embedded)
request to include additional information in XMP metadata that could give an indication of an image's status. Help designate if image is linked or embedded. Currently there is no distinction in the XMP metadata.

Ask to update links... for current document
I remember now why I turned off ask user to update links... because it comes up for documents that are open but not being worked on. Can you fix it so it only asks when you go to that document?
Here's an example: I'm working on multiple concepts that are placed as links into a presentation document. Each concept, and the presentation doc are open. When I make a change to one of the concept docs, the dialog box to update the links pops up. 1. it doesn't tell me what document has the updated links. 2. it won't let…

Copy images from the web and paste them directly in Illustrator
Please, guys, let us copy images from the web or our OS and paste them directly into Illustrator as Figma does.
In general...can you look at everything that Figma does when it comes to UX and take inspiration from there? I think there's a lot of room for improvement when it comes to UX in Adobe products :D
Thanks in advance!

notification when links won't update because of locked layers
It would be great if I could get a notification when links don't update because they're on a locked layer. I keep clicking on the update button in the links palette and I think something's wrong, when it's operator error.

Multi selected Linked files Placement options change (links panel)
Preserve: transforms
Case:
Multiple linked files on artboard. Default Placement option for all files is Preserve: Transforms.
I need to change them for Preserve:File Dimension but must do it file by file,
because after selecting all linked files Placement options are greyed out
and not avaiable for multi use .It would be nice to improve it by letting change Placement options for multi selected files.
I need to change 30000 of them clicking one by one right now. So any help (or bypass idea) to solve this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Saving PDF without modifying embedded images
Universities use LaTex PDF in researches for a good reason. The PDF produced by a LaTex app won't resample or blow-up the embedded images (JPEG). As a researcher, it will save us a lot of time if illustrator PDF setting has the option to not resample or alter the embedded images. A JPEG image (1920 x 1920 pixels) of a size 200 KB will make illustrator PDF file of about 10 MB. Whereas the PDF file produced by a LaTex app will be slightly bigger than 200 KB. I hope Adobe engineers will consider this issue.

Sort Links by size
Sort by name, kind and status already exists in Links palette options.
Please add a size option (personally would find it useful so I can see offending large links to prioritise downsizing).5 votes -
Marking already-placed images after import
Having Illustrator flag placed images (by small icon or turning the text to italics?) under the "File > Place" pop-up window when using LIST mode (by Illustrator finding duplicates comparing in the Links pallete) helping the user keep track when a large number of images need to be placed.
Right now if I have 50 images to place I have to use memory of where I was placing each or compare links pallete to finder window as a list to check at the end.

Auto-fill file name in search bar when re-linking / replacing missing links
The process of replacing missing links could be less tedious if Illustrator would auto-fill the name of the file in the search bar of the file browser. For me, it is often easier to perform a search for the file name rather than navigating through multiple depths of folders. An option to auto-fill the file name rather than manually typing it would make this regular task much smoother.
I regularly collaborate with other designers and am constantly re-linking files when someone else has created or edited the design file or when projects are re-organized. So the task of replacing missing…

Rename linked file
If I want to rename a file which is linked to a file (for whatever reason), I have to perform a humiliating process: find a link in Explorer, rename it, return to Ai, wait until it finds out the file is missing, search for the file in a dialog.
When this would be so much faster just to right-click the file (on canvas or in Links panel) and do 'Rename linked file'.
And please consider the other similar request about renaming an embedded image:

Placing a multi-page PDF
It would be great if we were able to place a multipage PDF instead of each link clicking through the finder window to the same file and going through the PDF pages one at a time again and again to place them in a document.

Placed psd layer comps keep their visibility regardless of color space(s)
Make layer comp visibility overrides work regardless of color space. When placing layer comps from PSD, the color spaces for both documents need to be the same in order for the layer comp visibility overrides to be sticky in AI. If one is CMYK and the other is RGB, and the layer comps are changed, the placed comps do not keep their original comp visibility overrides.
This is related to this thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/placed-layer-comps-don-t-keep-overrides-when-amending-originating-psd/m-p/13024880#M3260732 votes -
Retain layer blend modes from Photoshop when placing in Illustrator.
Please, allow the layer blend modes from Photoshop files to be retained when placing them in Illustrator. It's done within Corel, it should be native to Adobe products.

Unembed filename and format
I don't get why images can't be unembedded in the original format they were embedded in, but assuming there's some internal format limitation, there's certainly no reason why all the unembedded images should default to the generic "AI_Image.psd" filename when you have the original filename right there in the links palette!!!!
Throw us a bone here, please!3 votes -
“Embed All” button when embedding links.
Sometimes i work with files that have a lot links and when i send to factory i have to embed those links which can take what feels like forever! If there was a Embed All button it would save so much time.

Allow an option in preferences for missing links to be view or show an empty image box. The visual image can be an issue with some industries dealing with a variety of clients and file volume.

Ask user before updating links (AI 26.0.1)
When opening a file containing linked images that have been revised AI will automatically update images without any alert.
This is pretty dangerous for anyone working with a team or refer/update old projects.
Would love to have it ask me first or at least tell me which links were updated. Something to create awareness that things have changed since it was last opened.

Improved links panel (with Relink All)
Improved links panel. List all instances of a linked image under one 'primary' link, append the filename with " (xx instances) ". Use a chevron that points right to indicate that there are multiple instances under the "primary" one shown in the list. Clicking the chevron makes the chevron point down, and displays the list of all instances.
Clicking to select the "main" instance and clicking the re-link button should allow the user to replace all instances of the same image. Allow the user to expand the list downward as described above and select a single, or multiple instances to…
