Anchor point smart delete
Deleting an anchor point by default break up the shape of the stroke.
What about smart delete, that automatically adjust nearest handles to save the shape of the stroke.
I dream about it from the cs3 version :)
There is a method, quite recently introduced, but obscured and less-known.
To delete a point, keeping the character of a curve intact, you should pick Delete Anchor Point Tool (not the Pen tool, but a subtool, with a minus) and Shift+click a point.
I know, hidden... There are some requests about making it more clear.
Or you can have AstuteGraphics plugin, where this problem is fixed in their tools and easier accessible.
You can do it natively from a certain version, choosing Delete Anchor Point Tool (a solo tool, not the sub-mode of the Pen tool) and click a point with Shift held. Not a very known thing and not the best way to access it, I know, but there is one.
If you want to vote for making it more accessible — please vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/43794129-add-a-way-to-quickly-access-smart-delete-point-com
And if you are a user of AstuteGraphics plugins... you should be, because it is worth it.
We need this! It will save a lot of time of type designers, for example.
Illustrator needs a native solution to bezier point removal. The Vectorscribe plug-in for point removal is so good for cleaning up useless points along a curve without changing the shape. The simplify tool is ok at this but it often changes the shape of the bezier paths after and takes more tweaking than simply brushing over a path to remove points with no changes to the shape. Such a powerful feature should be native and not a 3rd party plug-in.

Yes, I know about InkScribe. I try it, and it cost 70F, but is it not should be a native feature.
That's a feature of the InkScribe plugin from Astute Graphics. It's excellent, highly recommended.
