Add features to the Rearrange Artboards dialog
I create a lot of new artboards ( 1 for each screen I am designing). Since Illustrator always puts new artboards at the right of the current top row on the workspace (regardless of the order specified for rearranging artboards), I often have to use the Rearrange Artboards command to make more space for the next artboard. The more artboards in the file, the more often I have to rearrange artboards.
It would be great if I could tell Illustrator to:
Add new artboards at the location indicated by following the layout pattern in the Rearrange Artboards dialog, with an option to 'wrap' when you get to the edge of the workspace.
Align the group of rearranged artboards in the workspace after a rearrangement. The choices should be
- Centered (as happens now), and
- Top Left (which leaves the maximum space for adding new artboards without having to rearrange them.
See the attached file for how the updated Rearrange Artboards dialog might look.
Thx!

When working with large amounts of artboards, it can be difficult to rearrange them. For example, if there are 100 pieces of art and I want to put the 99th on top of the 50th, I have to do it manually from the artboards panel and move it to the desired position. For this problem, a simple solution could be to add a numbering entry in the artboard options where you indicate in which position you want it to be.
Or, to move multiple artboards, create an option that allows this action from the artboards panel. -
I personally have doubts it is actually possible. What if you have artboards in a document that does not match a standard order? different sizes, placement, some are nested or a laager ones... how Ai can detect if 'a row' has ended or not?
But I agree that a user should be able to choose where a new artboard should be placed, from which side of a current one at least.

I saw that a different user had requested this and it has been started.

And allow a search function for artboards!

If you re-arrange your artboards to go down 1 column, have new artboards get created at the bottom under the latest artboard instead of generating sideways
