Please revise the new tool to simplify paths once again
Hello, the new tool to simplify the paths will be great for many people. But I draw my lines deliberately blurred. With the old tool I always set the value to 98% or 99%. But even if I set everything to maximum in the new tool, the paths will be really smooth. But I don't want it to be that smooth. Please rework the settings again. The paths should look blurred, but have as few anchor points as possible. With the old tool it always worked great. Many thanks
We have taken the feedback provided and have released with improvements as a new update (24.0.2) to Illustrator. Please update to the new version and let us know your feedback on the current version that has been released.
We aim to do continuous improvements and your feedback helps us to get better. Keep sending them.
I would just like to add my voice to those upset about this. It's such a severe change to the tool's purpose and usefulness that it should be considered an altogether separate function. This is going to seriously impact my workflow (and frustration level) on a number of current and upcoming projects. Adobe people - PLEASE stop changing the basic functionality of tools without a fallback to legacy. It's so frustrating to your core consumer.

I agree. I use this tool on a daily basis for the type of work that I do and the new method by which the simplify process works is very cumbersome and ineffective. Where as I was able to get the results I needed each time I used this tool in the past, now the results are no where near where they need to be and the preview doesn't even show the mess that this new method has made of a line. It doesn't show how bad it is until you select OK - and then you realize how terrible this new method of simplifying a line truly is.
yeah... i was excited at first, until i realized that auto-simplify wasn't what I expected or even close to the ideal values for 99% of situations. Even with my custom shortcut to simplify, it takes more steps and is just... kind of obnoxious really. Ideally there should be a way to set your own default preferences for "auto-simplify," but even just adding a slider for the angle threshold to the first window would resolve my issues with the update. Unnecessary anchor points are my nemesis so I've developed a pretty solid method for cleaning them up while retaining accuracy. So yeah this is really starting to be a pain - especially when cleaning up extremely complicated CAD files yiiiikes.
PS: my method is to simplify in sections, start at 100% and 0 degrees and adjust the % down from there. 98-100% being ideal and gets rid of everything necessary with little to no change in appearance almost every time, 97 is still semi-safe - below that usually loses too much accuracy but sometimes necessary. This is the most accurate and effective way to clean up anchor points without having to tweak/redraw/cry/etc. The key is doing it in sections so you only simplify the offenders instead of oversimplifying the whole object (start where you know an anchor point should be/makes sense, select that and the points between it and the next "logical" point, simplify, and repeat. e.g. a circle - select from the top center point to the center of one side > simplify, repeat so you end up with the 4 base points of a circle. another example: select the points from one sharp angle to the next) Not sure if any of this makes sense out loud - i can send screenshots if anyone's interested.)

I am in for that too. The new tool f*** up my workflow. I lost control over the tool.
Since the latest update it is no longer possible to fill in a percentage of symplifying a path. This was very useful. Bring it back please.

well said, gabi. also, it's two steps to get to the enhanced edit screen, then when you go back, it resets to default.
They change the "Simplify Tracks" in menu object in the latest version (23.1.1). Before you could choose a fixed percentage value and apply the same value to other jobs. Now it's anything and we do not understand anything! I have to change all my process. Quick and please, put the old algorithm back !!! ?
