Break apart blocks of text into separate text objects: by lines, words, characters, outlines
As done in Flash, I need to be able to paste in a block of text and "break apart" the single text object to several separate text objects. Ideally each time I click break apart, the action will break the text down further: by lines, then words, then characters, then to outlines. This action should be assigned a shortcut to quickly cut up text that has been pasted in from outside Illustrator.
I spend a lot of time pasting in label text for infographics and diagrams, and then cutting and pasting repeatedly to separate the labels out for positioning.

Corel Draw can do this since 2000 as one mentioned. Sure there are scripts and macros and plugins but I really don't want to bother with such a simple task. It should be built in.

It's kind of funny that everybody complains or even mocks about CorelDraw. Actually CD even the eldest versions have a "break text apart" feature that allows you to break the text on lines and then characters if you need it (awesome) obviously keeping all the text features (modify font, paragraph, well I think I´ve made my point). To be honest I thought about this constantly for the last, I don´t know, 8/10 years? I don´t understand why Adobe refuses to add it. CorelDraw it´s far way better in this and in vector modifying tools (bezier, adding nods, curvature, etc.) Sue me.

It's insane this doesn't exist. This is something I use constantly and there there needs to be an easy way to break apart lines of text without resorting to plugins. Yes, if coreldraw has been able to do it for decades there is no reason for this not to be part of illustrator

Unfortunately Illustrator lack from this feature. I don't know why Adobe don't able to create this function. We make typography much faster in CorelDraw, then illustrator because it's fast shortcuts. Hope Illustrator would resolve this text brake headache one day.

Meanwhile you can use VectorFirstAid plugin by AstuteGraphics that can do it and even more.
Also, try the free script by Carlos Canto:

Hi Adobe, please add a Break Text Apart feature Like Corel Draw.

Partially it can be done via Flatten Transparency trick.
Fully — via VectorFirstAid plugin by AstuteGraphics.
Voted though. -
Lisa, there’s a plugin that does exactly what you want — VectorFirstAid by AstuteGraphics
