symbol marker in preview and outline view
I'd like to see a symbol "marker" of some sort to quickly identify symbols used on a layout, much like the pilcrow and other typographic characters used in InDesign (that can be turned On or Off). These "markers" should be visible in both Preview and Outline views. Thanks. A.C.

Ah, I see, thank you for the clarification.
While I still think the idea is interesting to explore, I have some thoughts specifically about the problem you were having.
1. Non-printable characters inside of a symbol look black and not colored to a layer’s color. Hard to spot, but still an indicator.
2. If you disable bounding box for a moment, you will we able to see that symbols do not have edge frames drawn, only a small cross icon in the middle. Knowing this, you can select all and see who is from you legal blocks is not having a frame. -

Thanks Egor. Just one example: I created 12 similar posters and flyers in one .ai file. They were all somewhat different but with some things in common; one of those was a text box containing some legal blah-blah. That text would need to be updated from time to time so a symbol was the perfect solution. The problem is that I missed one of the text boxes... and one cannot tell a symbol from a non-symbol object. In InDesign, a number of non-printing characters are used like the "pilcrow" and "link" to signify paragraph, a linked object respectively. There are more, you probably know. Those special characters can be turned on or off. This is what I'm thinking of, something that would allow me to identify the type of object I'm looking at. Best, A.C.

Voted.
Basically I’d be glad if I was able to Select > Object > Symbols... or select all (or several) symbols in Symbols panel and search for every symbol on the canvas from the selection. But Andres, what is the purpose?
