alt click swatches to add colors to a selected gradient
With a gradient object selected, it would be much quicker to alt click swatches from the swatch panel to add to current selection

I think you meant 'to insert them into the active gradient with no actual stops selected', correct?
Ai today allows to convert selected swatches into a gradient via the panel’s menu, Create Gradient. It would replace all the gradient stops though, not insert them in between. I know the only plugin that allows actual inserting like you mention, Gradient Forge. -
