Allow to change default settings for 3D and Materials effect
Can we please change the default settings on 3D effect to not apply anything or allow us to change the default. It takes forever to load on every project just to open it up for a simple bevel to be applied. Many times my app just crashes just opening up the window just from applying whatever the default setting is doing to the text I selected. My computer is far beyond the specs that it says the program requires until I need to open this tool on anything.

Specs are the most updated version of both Mac and Illustrator.

Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645Resolution deos not seem to make any difference when I adjust it. The size of the object varies depending on my project, the largest I have tried this on is W: 515pt by H: 97pt, but this has even happened to thing 140x25 pt.
Ray tracing is off.This has been the only file open sometimes to help make it less problematic. Even when it does finally open, I need to undo all the things it auto applies to the object and or text back to 0. I just wanted to apply a bevel and it applies extrude and rotation default setting.
This happens no matter which option I select from the drop down, I have to wait for it to apply some default setting to any of the 3D options that is way too much and makes it look ridiculous. If this is too much to ask, is it possible just to be able to change what the default selection is?

Gary, what are your specs?
Also — does it get any better if you first go to Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings and lower the resolution all the way down to 1 ppi? It should not, but also can.
Then, how large are your objects you apply the effect to?
Do you have Ray Tracing enabled? — you should disable it for sure and turn on only at final stages.
