3D & Materials: separate colour/material for extrusion
Please introduce the ability to apply separate colour and material to the extruded part of a 3D shape. There are multiple examples where such a feature would immensely help recreating real world objects. For example: laser cut plywood (burned edges, parallel to the surface), slice of bread, etc. Basically, any cut object which interior is different to its surface.

At the moment it’s not possible to assign materials to different subsurfaces of the 3D objects, other than eyeballing decals without precise controls over the positioning and scale. When objects with modern 3D get expanded, the result now is either a raster image, or an uneditable triangular mesh grid, of a set of unfilled paths.
The current limited workaround to this is to use the Effect > 3D and Materials > 3D (Classic) instead. These effects produce vector shapes on expanding and allow to map symbols with fitting options. -

Potentially add a feature where you can colour different sides of a 3D object - maybe expand the object without hidden edges then make each face selectable?
