Please add Illustrator option to maintain text color
Could you please add an option for us to keep the color we chose for the text in an illustrator file we're currently working on?
Meaning: Say I am writing text in a file, but I want separate text boxes and I want to keep the same color, rather than Illustrator defaulting back to black or whatever color was set as default in the preferences.
I'd like to be able to check a box to keep the color I am using for the text rather than having to go back to the color and subsequently the default sizes set in the Main preferences. It's time consuming to keep having to change both the color and size for each text area I create in a document.
Thank you.

Also, when creating these character styles we are unable to click the color and change it. We have to chose whatever is in there. (And if we have to establish the swatches first, that just adds another step instead of us just being able to pick colors within the character styles box; Same happens in Indesign and its frustrating).

Ohh ok...
Well, it would be of great help if this functionality was added.
(As it would be with the unchecked box for Hyphenate. I know we're been asking for this one for years) :) -
I rechecked CS3 (and several more versions) — nope! Falls back to the color of the default style.

Honestly, I could swear it used remember the color in the past CS3...
Anyhow, this would be super helpful for those of us who have to write more than one thing and keep the same color.

Yeah, I understand.
A funny thing is — usually Illustrator remembers the style of a previously selected object and applies it to a newly create object (if a user has New Art Has Basic Appearance option disabled in the Appearance panel’s flyout menu).
But strangely the behavior does not really apply to text fully — Ai respects the font, the size of the text — but not the color. Weird indeed.
As far as I can tell, all versions behave the same, so it’s either a bug nobody reported before, or an intended behavior.
Thanks for bringing that up. -

Hi,
Yes, that’s like in InDesign, but it’s an extra step that has to be set up and it’s the same thing - we still have to stop, highlight the text we want to change and apply the style. It would be so much nicer to check a box to keep the color and /or font as started, and not go back to defaults each time we need to type a line of text in the same doc.

We can do it in Illustrator already, but I can’t say it works the same way you describe — not with a single click, but several clicks — with Paragraph Styles.
If you redefine [Normal Paragraph Style] using a color you want (and/or font and other text settings), each new text object would inherit it.
It’s not as easy to setup, but it works. The method you propose though... while this is easier for new users, it will contradict with the way text styles work and create problems for many other folks who rely on styles.
Have you tried the method? Please reply.
