Locked Object as Key Object
It would be very helpful to have the option to enable a locked object to be selected as a key object. I would make aligning object workflows to be slightly more efficient.

Here is my proposed behavior that could work for this.
If this feature is off by default any existing users will see no change to their workflow. If users wish to use this feature it will be easy to use by mimicking an existing features UI. If users want to use both of these features the example provided would give them an easy to understand the choice between unlocking and selecting as key object.
If set up like suggested any type of selecting would ignore the locked object as normal and the only way to select as key object would be to click the key symbol when hovering over the locked object.
Edit: I am unsure if my photo was uploaded with this post as an example.

I’d propose the other way, to stay consistent with how the key object gets marked manually today, — with a second single click on a selected object... on the other hand, this would greatly irritate people who don’t want locked objects to react in any way unless clicked into the lock icon.
These do irritate some users already, hence this report: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/42831876
I can’t tell which operation is more common: to isolate stuff or align to key... I use both. -

I would suggest for consistancy with the current interface for locked objects that are enabled to be invidually unlocked. Below the "Lock" symbol that appears when hovering near the path of a locked object could be another symbol like a "Key" to select as the key object. This could also be the only symbol if the 'Select and Unlock object on canvas' option is disabled. It should be intuitive for users that like the 'Select and Unlock object on canvas' option as well.

Anselmi, I suppose this can only work when one has enabled 'Select and Unlock object on canvas' option in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display.

If the object is locked you can't select it to make it the key object
How do you suggest it should behave?
Maybe a trigger button could workE.g
Hold the V key while selecting a locked object could temporary unlock it
