Sort layers and objects in alphabetical order
Allow to re-order content in Layers in alphabetical order

Yes, in the palette. On the canvas you can usually see what's on top of what. Assuming when the layers are sorted alphabetically in the palette, it doesn't actually change their position. You're right, it's hard to explain, lol!

Do not get the question, Dina.
By looking into Layers or on canvas (if the layout reveals it)? -

I see how this could be useful when there are many layers in a document... I think the challenge here is that layers are usually in a specific order so that one item is on top of another. If the layers are sorted alphabetically, how would you know which layer is actually on top?

Hi, I've just installed this and works like a charm! Thanks

This should be a native option, sure, but today we can use a free script by Sergey Osokin, SortLayerItems, to do that:

Works like a clock! I wish you posted this sooner, because sorting these manually is ...ugh! Hope this helps, and thanks for the request! -

Both options would be desirable, but I prefer the ability to organize objects within layers. Currently, I have a document containing numerous objects that should be confined to a single layer, however, arranging them alphabetically would make it easier to find the text object i'm searching. Presently, I manually perform this sorting task.

Do you mean reordering layers themselves, or sorting objects within layers?
