Please add 'Save as preset' to the file menu
The homescreen says in a promising way that we can Save and Find our own Document Presets. But how?
Please add a way to save document presets, without having to struggle with permissions and cryptic folder names.
And, please let thee presets migrate when Ai is updated :-)

Jan, this is a mess, yes.
These 'presets' can be saved only for new documents.
If you want to save a template, just save it using Save As / as a Copy and choose .ait format. Old, reliable, versatile. -

In the New Document dialog, 'Preset' and 'Template' are used as if those where synonyms.
'Browse Presets' and 'Find more Templates'
Guess this dialog is mainly a marketing tool to sell more prefab design stuff. For power users, it is just annoying imho.

Very confusing indeed, to save a preset from the new file dialog.
What are we saving? The currently opened document? The highlighted preset (which obiously has been saved previously). I still plea for a Save preset option. In the File menu. Don't care how this is working behind the UI, as long as it migrates along with software updates.@Egor - can you explain how to save a Preset from my own modified document?
(More specific: I like to save a preset for 1920x1080 px, RGB, without the ridiculous video rulers and the obsolet safe area clutter, and without the transparency grid visible - preferrably with a black background an 16 bits color, just like all video apps - but that is another request) -
Jan, this section (mixed with document profiles, disguised as categories of sorts) houses yet another type of preset: not a document profile, not an .ait template, but a 'preset', the one we can save only from the modern version of File New dialog (and can’t at all form the legacy one).
This button next to document names allows you to do it.
The information on this and other presets is saved into a file as shoved into yet another cryptic folder.
...and I’m not sure it gets migrated properly, as everything else, because, well, Ai.This is how it’s done.
I upvote this though, because clearly this stupid thing should explain it right there.
