Dynamic Dimension Tool
Happy New Year
Just a thought for the upcoming year.
Add the ability to automatically extend the length of a dimension after the dimension is set and have the dimension to adapt to the new measurements.
Currently the measured distance is static, WYSIWYG. Would make placing objects in Illustrator a lot easier.

I see now, got it.
Well, yes, if you try to move dimensions only, or the dimensions with their bound objects, they do get expanded. And while the first behavior makes sense... some of it... I personally can’t comprehend why moving it all together would make these die.
I reported this here:Dimensions get expanded when moved, with or without related objects

Yes, the Dimension Tool
All this time I have been using the Dimension Tool it was not behaving the way I expected. However, this morning it took on a new feel, and behaves as you described. I was attempting to move the dimension lines and expecting the lines to move. I have to draw the object first, then use the Dimension Tool. Easy adaptation. Thanks -
Illustrator has two different tools: Measure tool and Dimension tool. Do you mean the Dimension one?
Not sure I get your request right, but today the dimensions created on canvas get attached to the points and objects, and when we scale or move the objects, attached dimensions reflow automatically. So they aren’t static.
Or do you mean a different thing altogether, an ability to edit the text in the dimension and make the object rescale, CAD-style?
