Keyboard shortcuts for align/distribute.
I miss having keyboard shortcuts for align/distribute from my CorelDraw days. I'm a pro designer in a fast turnaround environment, and keyboard shortcuts are essential to my workflow.
As far as I know, the numeric keypad isn't being used in Illustrator. My proposal is: Pressing 0 toggles between absolute to the artboard or relative to last item selected. Pressing 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 will perform the align .2 = bottom, 4 = left, 5 = centre, 6 = right, 8 = top. Additionally 7 = distribute horizontal, 9 = distribute vertical.
Also, please copy the CorelDraw keyboard shortcut Tab = select next object/group, Shift Tab select previous object/group

You are talking about align shortcuts? I have used coreldraw for just about 4 years now but man, using it is such a bliss. I miss it entirely. Adobe please! the least you could do is study Coreldraw!! seriously.
For the love of Corel, I can not stop myself, sorry!
The biggest difference between Illustrator and corel is customization. CorelDraw shortcuts are fully customizable. You can be Just press Ctrl + Shift + E and you get temporary eyedropper tool which vanishes once used. Adobe has countless tools that we may never use. Corel has added a flat shadow tool! Can you believe that? Its a perfect example of how user convenience is considered first.
Just a few issues like,
1. Corel is missing corner round of any object. Currently it supports interactive rounding of rectangle corners only. Also once object is converted (expanded) it loses this interactivity (not sure if solved, latest version is 2019, I am still on 2018).
2. file corruption is big problem. If software crashes suddenly, there is 30-40% chance, it will be corrupted. Must be ram problem or software itself.
3. It misses some really usefull stuff in Illustrator, like width tool, shape builder etc.
4. Its not as popular as illustrator with my freelancing clients (damn!)
sorry if I stretched this too far, but in terms of productivity, big bro Adobe illustrator could take some tips from little bro. Hah!
So we are able to set hotkeys to align now but the numpad numbers are the same as regular numbers.
Could you differentiate them? I've seen other softwares use 1,2,3 etc. for regular number shortcuts and NUM1, NUM2, NUM3 etc. for numpad shortcuts. If the numpad shortcuts are different, we can set NUM8 to align top, NUM4 to align left, NUM6 to align right, and NUM2 to align bottom for quality of life changes.

I'm using Macromedia Freehand for many years. Although now it is obsolete, but it's old version 10 or MX is still very user friendly. Specially alignment short keys, while there is no button or short cut in Illustrator of horizontally and vertically center together. Further more Clipping Mask is not better than Paste Inside (in Freehand) and any many more things which are not in Illustrator. I think Adobe should seriously think about it.

You can always just assign a custom shortcut: Edit => Keyboard Shortcuts => Menu Commands => Object => Align => Horizontal Align Center and/or Vertical Align Center which I have mapped to [option+command+F] and [option+command+V] which are easily pressed one after the other to quickly align one object to another object.

I agree with Matt Irving actually unifying these across XD/Illustrator/photoshop/indesign would be a great idea

I think the best option for this is to implement the keyboard shortcuts that are already used for this exact feature in Adobe XD!
CMD, CTRL, arrows (mac)
CTRL, shift, arrows (pc)
Up aligns top, down aligns bottom, left aligns left, right aligns right.
CMD, CTRL M (mac) / shift M (pc)
Align horizontally (m for middle)
CMD, VTRL C (mac) / shift C (pc)
Align vertically (c for centre)
CMD, CTRL, V (mac) / CTRL, shift V (pc) Distribute vertically
CMD, CTRL, H (mac) / CTRL, shift H (pc) Distribute horizontally

I feel like we're all just talking among ourselves. Anyone know of a better way to get Adobe to listen and/or move on this issue?
Forget numeric keyboard - too many people work on laptops! Just the ability to assign buttons. We will manage with the rest.
Wake up Adobe!
We also need to be able to assign a shortcut for "Align to Artboard" and "Align to Selection" as switching between them manually is a real pain!

Adobe, please wake up!
It is also important to be able to set a shortcut for "Align to Artboard" and "Align to Selection" as switching between them all the time manually is a real pain.
This is so sad, if they just added individual align commands to the menu, we could assign any shortcut to them, depending on how we work. I'm very disappointed for many year not having this fixed yet... :(
I'm seriously thinking of switching to another software, perhaps Affinity Designer.
Please make them simply available as menu commands! Same as Pathfinder commands are! This is the only solution! If Pathfinder commands are available via menu, why not Align commands??? Come on!
SO expensive piece of software for rent, and we have to beg for such simple solution. Adobe has been known to be a corporation that don't care about what users ask for. They only care about money.
SHAME ON YOU ADOBE!
Exactly! We need those align options to be available as commands as it was mentioned below! So we can assign ANY shortcuts! F-keys macros is not a solution at all! It's a huge pain, and I'm not sure why Adobe doesn't give a **** for years!
With all respect @Sowell Roid, but this is not a solution at all for various reasons described below, which I'm sure you didn't care to read!! So please take time and read it! Because this stupid workaround with F keys has been known for ages, and it's not a solution at all! And never was!!

Excellent solution here folks:
be sure to give Marcos Vinícius Feijó over at Behance an appreciation and a follow!
Macros with Function Keys is a well known workaround which has NEVER worked! In fact, it is so limited that it might solve the problem only for a small number of people.
We need Align commands to be listed as Menu commands, in the same fashion as Pathfinder ones, so we can assign any shortcut keys!
Actions don't work, because of the lack of flexibility. For example, I constantly have to switch between "Align to Selection" and "Align to Artboard", and if you play an action which center objects to Artboard, and the "Align to Selection" is selected, then the Macro will NOT WORK! So, you have this very limited function key shortcut, which only work if you manually switch the mode from Selction to Artboard - we need a shortcut for that too! At the end I have to go to Align panel anyway to switch between modes, so what's the point! If I had the commands available in menu, I could assign whatever key I need to my specific needs!!!!
This software is way overpriced, people are forced to pay monthly without even owning the software, and need to beg for years for such basic functionality! This is absolutely ridiculous!!! Adding Align commands to the menu it's a one afternoon job for their programmers for Christ sake!!! What the **** is going on there??!!
Shall we beg for it for another 10 years??? WAKE UP ADOBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I made a quick action set.. hope this helps. It works with the Function Keys, you can adjust as needed.
