Background Grid Not Displayed Behind Fully Opaque Objects in Illustrator 30.0
I am experiencing an issue in Illustrator 30.0 where the background grid does not appear behind any objects that have 100% opacity, regardless of fill or effects. This happens even when Overprint Preview is enabled. This kind of phenomenon did not occur while using 28.x and 29.x series.
- Illustrator version: 30.0
- OS: macOS Sequoia (15.3.2)
- Issue: Any object with 100% opacity completely hides the background grid.
- Troubleshooting steps attempted:
- Switching GPU performance ON/OFF
- Using CPU preview
- Resetting Illustrator preferences
- Switching to Outline view and back

Dear Egor,
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Personally, I completely agree with your opinion. I feel that the current Ver 30 completely ignores grid usability...
I'll definitely vote for your idea! -
The team 'fixed' the behavior that allowed us to 'overprint' the grid when Overprint preview mode was enabled.
Now the grid won’t be displayed above opaque objects when Preferences > Guides & Grid > Grids in Back is enabled.
The image shared is the correct and expected behavior — and this is what team thinks.However.
I hate it personally. I’ve been using the Overprint hack to display subtle grids above everything since pre CS era.
Disabling Grids in Back to display grids above artwork is horrendously loud — lines are too prominent!I made a request about making Grids-in-front more useful a while ago — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32403802
