List View in Tool Drawer
In all fresh installs, Illustrator opens with the Essentials Workspace, which is a lightweight workspace with a very Basic toolbar. In the toolbar, below all the tools, there are three dots that open up the tools drawer where rest of the tools are housed.
We redesigned the tool drawer to make it easier to select and add the additional tools in your main toolbar. Specifically, we are adding:
- List View and Grid View button.
- Making Grid View as the default view
- Temp selection of tool from Drawer. Meaning, when you click on a tool in the tools drawer, and do not add it to the toolbar, and also exit the customization mode, we'll temporarily load that tool and show at the bottom of all tools in the toolbar.
Please share your feedback/thoughts on this revamped tool drawer.

I’d like to not only have an already added tool highlighted when hovered in the drawer, but also for it to be selectable.
Like, look, I already found it. Just let me click it right here, select it in the toolbox, and let me close the drawer.
Especially it gets obvious when you locate a tool that is a subtool under another tool, like an Ellipse — Ai highlights Rectangle, as the first tool from that button... and what? you expect a user to see a Rectangle in a frame and understand that it is an Ellipse? Bring the Ellipse subtool in front in the tool panel, draw a frame around the disabled tool icon in the drawer, a nd let user to close it now.
