Exported Asset from Photoshop PDF file in Illustrator Renders Incorrectly in Photoshop
Platform:
• Adobe Illustrator Version: 29.3.1 (Latest as of 3/10/2025)
• Operating System: Windows 11 (Fully Updated)
• Hardware: Intel Core i9, NVIDIA RTX (Latest Drivers Installed)
Issue Summary:
When opening a Photoshop PDF in Illustrator, elements are recognized as Non-Native Art. When exporting an asset from this file using the Asset Export panel (see Screenshot-1.png), the resulting exported PDF does not display correctly in Photoshop (see Screenshot-2.png). Instead of rendering properly, the exported file contains distorted lines and artifacts, making it unusable.
Steps to Reproduce:
• Open a Photoshop PDF in Adobe Illustrator.
• Observe that the artwork is identified as Non-Native Art in the Layers panel.
• Use the Asset Export panel to export the image as a PDF.
• Open the exported PDF in Adobe Photoshop.
• Notice that the image is corrupted, with incorrect rendering, visible lines, and artifacts.
Expected Behavior:
• The exported asset should maintain the visual integrity of the original artwork.
• When opened in Photoshop, it should closely match the original Photoshop PSD file in both resolution and appearance.
Actual Behavior:
• The exported asset appears distorted or incorrectly rendered in Photoshop.
• Visible lines and artifacts are present that do not exist in the original artwork.
System Specifications:
• OS: Windows 11 (Fully Updated)
• CPU: Intel Core i9
• GPU: NVIDIA RTX (Latest Drivers Installed)
• Illustrator Version: 29.3.1 (Latest as of 3/10/2025)
• Photoshop Version: 25.1 (Latest as of 3/10/2025)
Attachments:
• Screenshot-1.png of the Illustrator Asset Export panel showing Non-Native Art.
• Screenshot-2.png of the exported PDF opened in Photoshop, displaying the rendering issue.
Additional Notes:
• This issue occurs specifically with the PDF format exported via the Asset Export panel.
• PNG and JPG exports do not exhibit the issue, but they result in a loss of native resolution.
• A workaround involves manually rasterizing or re-saving the image in Photoshop before importing into Illustrator, but this adds unnecessary steps and is not an ideal solution.
• This issue significantly impacts workflows that require Photoshop PDFs to be edited in Illustrator and exported back to Photoshop at the same resolution.
• Would appreciate any insights or a fix in a future update.

Mark, you forgot to share the file itself it seems (or it got blocked by UserVoice for some reason).
It feels like it’s Photoshop’s problem, but without original files the team won’t be able to investigate it.Persoanlly I’m curious about the workflow. Why do you need import this into Ai in the first place? The image looks simple enough to be created in Ai altogether.
