I am happy to share that ‘Auto spell-check’ feature has been shipped in the latest version of Illustrator. Here is how to enable/disable it in the latest release : https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new/2020.html#spellcheck

Hi Everyone,
All the effect checkboxes have now been set to ON by default, and are sticky (meaning that if you disable preview, on next launch of Illustrator preview will remain disabled). This functionality now is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now.
What’s new in 24.1: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/whats-new.html
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback.

Agreed, this is an absolute must and fundamental considering the specs of even ordinary machines these days. For me, working on complex maps, this is the single biggest problem with Illustrator. In fact it has the worst performance of any app I use, yet the one I need to use most!! And please, don't lump the performance gains on the GPU, as for the most part this really isn't helping much.

The Hotdoor CADtools plug-in has a very useful offset the path either way, not all the way round. I wish Illustrator did this natively.
