Adobe Illustrator's Multithreading Journey Begins!
Dear Illustrator Community,
I'm thrilled to announce that we've embarked on an exciting journey to bring multithreading capabilities to Adobe Illustrator. This significant undertaking will enhance performance and responsiveness across various aspects of the application.
While this is a complex process that will take some time to fully implement, I wanted to share our progress so far.
Our Approach
We've strategically begun by focusing on the most computationally intensive operations—those that typically take more time and block the main thread, resulting in slower response times while you work. By moving these operations to separate threads, we aim to significantly improve your overall experience with Illustrator.
It's important to note that you may see more noticeable impact in some areas than others initially. However, we want to assure you that this is just the beginning, and we will continue this journey to bring improvements across…

As we approach Adobe MAX in Miami this year, I wanted to reach out and connect with our users who are planning to attend. I'd love the opportunity to chat with you in person about our overall approach. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we continue to work on performance improvements.
Our team has been working diligently and we'd love to share some details about our approach with you. If you're attending MAX, I would be happy to set up some time to chat and hear your thoughts on our improvement strategies.
Are any of you planning to attend Adobe MAX in Miami this year? If so, please let us know through this short survey: https://survey.adobe.com/jfe/form/SV_0VzklAr12gxsDaK
I will reach out to coordinate a time to meet up during the event. Looking forward to potentially connecting with you at MAX!
An error occurred while saving the comment Hello everyone,
First off, I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for not sharing regular updates with you regarding Illustrator’s performance enhancements. I completely understand the frustrations many of you have expressed about our progress (or lack thereof) in making Illustrator a more multithreaded and multiprocessor-friendly application. Your feedback is vital, and it’s clear that we haven’t done a great job of keeping the lines of communication open.I want to assure you all that your voices have been heard loud and clear. We are working on making Illustrator multithreaded and multiprocessor-capable. It's a big undertaking, but it's happening! We genuinely appreciate your passion and ideas about how we can improve Illustrator’s performance, and I will ensure that we keep you updated on our progress moving forward. You deserve to know where we stand and what we’re working on.
I know actions speak louder than words, so I'm looking forward to showing you the improvements we're making. Thanks for sticking with us, and for pushing us to do better.
We've been digging deep into the app's architecture, and I want to give you a peek at what we've been up to. We've identified several tasks that were bogging down the main thread, and I'm happy to report we're making progress in moving these to background threads. Some of the areas we have tackled so far: Crash Recovery, Snapping, Thumbnail generation. These processes are now running on separate background threads, which should start to yield noticeable performance gains. We will be continuing to identify and shift more processes off the main thread.Additionally, we've been focusing on optimizing key areas that users have flagged as pain points. We've made significant improvements in: Image handling, File saving, Applying effects.
Very soon you will see these changes in action. I will share an update once these are in Beta build for you to experience these improvements firsthand. We know there's more work to be done, and we're committed to continuously improving Illustrator's speed and efficiency.
I will continue to update this thread with ongoing progress. I’d also like to invite you to be part of our Customer Advocacy Board (CAB). This CAB will allow for closer engagement, giving you a seat at the table as we explore ways to enhance our product. If you're interested in contributing and being part of the conversation, please let us know through this link: https://survey.adobe.com/jfe/form/SV_czQpFnmd3PWAreS
We appreciate your patience and feedback.

The latest version of Illustrator now allows you to manually control the behavior with the 'Suffix' option in the Export As dialog. Please check if it it works for you and comment back if it does not.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks for sharing your feedback. We are working on making this change. Better late than never :)
From the comments, it's clear that appending file name with numbers or artboard name doesn't make sense in one artboard scenario. We are planning to keep the filename as is in one artboard scenario. For multiple artboards, we continue to append the way it does today. Let me know if anyone sees any concern with this approach.
Thanks,
Avinash -

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 25.4.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!
An error occurred while saving the comment Based on your feedback, we had added a preference to enable/disable trackpad gestures for rotation. If you update to the latest version, you should see it under : Preferences > General > Trackpad Gesture to Rotate View.
We are also working on tweaking the threshold so that it's less sensitive and doesn't come in the way of zooming. This will come out very soon.

Hi friends! I have some great news for your today. Rotate View (Canvas) feature is available in Illustrator 25.3 (Desktop) now. Thank you all for your feedback which helped us shape up this feature.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks Simon for sharing. Some of you had reported that it's too sensitive and you are rotating accidentally. The latest release 25.4 has an option to disable Trackpad Gestures. We will work towards refining the threshold but for now please use the option to disable it if it's coming in your way.
Preferences > General: deselect "Trackpad Gesture to Rotate View".
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks, Tonny. We have added shift+H shortcut and also allowing to spring load by pressing spacebar + Shift. Do you think it may not suffice?
An error occurred while saving the comment Thank you all for your feedback so far. We wanted to seek your input on two things that we are deliberating:
1. Currently, rotation via mouse pivots the canvas from the middle of the screen. This is how it works in Photoshop. We wanted to ask you if providing the ability to specify a reference point for rotation (similar to Rotate tool) will be useful or not?
2. Based on feedback we are also thinking of replacing the slider on the status bar with presets. What do you think about it?
An error occurred while saving the comment People not seeing 25.3 Beta that has Rotate Canvas, please send me your Adobe IDs. I will enable access. Send it to kotwal at Adobe.com.
An error occurred while saving the comment Here are different ways to rotate the canvas
An error occurred while saving the comment Rotate canvas functionality is now available in Beta. You can download this beta through the Creative Cloud Desktop app's beta section.
You can easily rotate the canvas and change its direction. All your artboards and visible onscreen objects will be rotated according to the specified angle. Like zoom, the rotated canvas view will be saved with the document. We are working on enabling artboard guides in a rotated view and shall be available updates soon.
This has been one big missing functionality in Illustrator and we would love to hear your feedback in helping us refine it further. What do you like? What do you think is missing? Please share.
An error occurred while saving the comment Happy New Year Everyone!
As we build this functionality in Illustrator, I wanted to seek your feedback on how you expect rulers to work in a rotated view.
Please let me know your preference:
1. Work as they work in Photoshop (see the attached GIF)
2. Do not show rulers in the rotated view as it may get confusing. Also - Would you need to create guides in a rotated view?
Any other suggestions/feedback on rulers?
Thanks
An error occurred while saving the comment The team has started working on it. We would love to talk to some of you to understand your workflows and ask a few questions. If you are interested, please use this link to pick a time slot. Look forward to your feedback. Thanks.

This feature has been released in 24.3. Please update to the latest version to use this feature. We would love to hear your feedback.
An error occurred while saving the comment Yes, you can go to the 'View' menu and uncheck 'Snap to Glyph'.
I am also curious, why you want to disable it. Are these guides cluttering your view or interfering with your workflow?. Thanks. An error occurred while saving the comment This feature has been released in 24.3, which is out now. Please update to the latest version to use this feature. We have seen this issue specific to macOS 10.15. Enabling “Screen Recording” access right to Illustrator resolved this issue.
You can change this setting by going to Apple > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Screen Recording and add Illustrator Application.
Please try this and reply in comment if the above suggestion worked for you.

Illustrator TeamAn error occurred while saving the comment As Rama mentioned, Apple has restricted the screen recording access in macOS 10.15 To sample the color from other windows user has to allow Illustrator to access Screen Recording permission.
This can be done by going to Apple > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Screen Recording and add Illustrator Application. Here is a link to read more about it: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/cc-apps-macmojave.html

So it’s obviously not fixed, and we all know it.
While the cursor gets changes into the horizontal/vertical two-headed arrow, the center handles for the bounding box indeed don’t appear, if the width/height of the art (here just an orthogonal line) is small enough.
Please continue to share you thought, screenshots, GIFs. It’s time to re-review this again.
An error occurred while saving the comment @Feek - This couldn't make it to 23.0.5 but we plan will ship it in next release soon. Our intent is to do frequent releases to ship long-standing asks faster.

Hi,
Thank you, Mike and Margot, for sharing your detailed experiences and candid feedback about Illustrator's performance issues. As cartographers working with complex documents, your use cases are valuable to us.
Margot, I've reviewed the video you shared showing the delay in text manipulation, and this is not the experience we want for our users. I'm particularly concerned that you're seeing worse performance after the 29.1 update, as this runs counter to our goals. We're investigating this specific regression as a matter of priority.
Mike, you shouldn't need to remove data layers or resort to workarounds like recreating text elements instead of editing them. We are working towards to make sure we address these issues in next few releases.
Let me be transparent about where we are in our multithreading journey. While we've begun implementing multithreading with rasterization in 29.1, we've a clearly identified roadmap that we are executing against. We're taking a methodical approach to these changes to ensure stability.
Your real-world examples are invaluable for our testing and optimization process. I would greatly appreciate if you could share your working files with me at kotwal at adobe.com. These files will be used exclusively for internal testing and will help us replicate and address the specific scenarios you're encountering.
We will provide regular updates on our progress, and we will ensure that your use cases are represented in our performance testing suite.
Thank you for your patience and continued feedback as we work to improve Illustrator's performance.
