What I mean is there doesn’t seem to be a keyboard shortcut that maps Esc to resetting the rotation. If there were, I would unassign it, so that I can press escape to exit object isolation without resetting rotation

Mature Adobe apps have countless settings and actions that can be hard to find in the menus and Preferences dialog.
Please consider taking a look at how JetBrains has solved for this problem. In JetBrains IDEs, you can start typing when any preference window is open to jump to the setting you need. It's really intuitive and powerful.
They also have a powerful command menu CMD-P where you can type to open any file in the project, or to find any action that you want to run. It's much more efficient then digging through a menu or clicking many tabs in preferences.
It would also be great if you could look at how they handle re-mapping keyboard shortcuts. Along with being able to type to find the shortcut in question, you can also click a button to identify where a keyboard shortcut is mapped to (Click button, type CMD-S, it jumps to the Save... setting where you can remap this to another key combo). And, of course, they let you type the name of the setting to jump to the place to remap it.

Beta 29.7.0.60 introduces Search field in Preferences.
Now we can jump to the found option quickly by typing a name or a part of it.
Please try to update and test if it suits you (be careful though, this build also introduces many WIP change to the snapping system!) — and comment back if you have important notes.

I wonder if there should be a new way to quickly modify keyboard increments, sounds like it is pretty vital to productivity
