    Thank you Anish, but that was not the issue. The latest upgrade in windows 10 caused the problem. Some coordination is needed before I can upgrade. I set the upgrade back one version and Font drop down worked again.

    The current workaround for completely eliminating 'Recent' section in font list is to set '0' in Preferences > Type: Number of Recent Fonts.

    But since it’s stupid, please add votes to make it work properly.

    This worked fine until the 2018 upgrade recently
