Starting from the February 2024 release, version 28.3, this option is no longer enabled by default for new documents. If you had hyphenation enabled in an existing document, Ai will respect this.

Yeah, please fix this. Like SO many others have commented, can't you just reverse the functionality? (make it opt-in instead of opt-out)

When I export PNG files from AI, using the File > Export for screens command, my exported graphics are showing the AI in-app UI symbols for overflow text. This should not be happening. Actual exported .png attached.

Sigh. I wish they would address this. It happens multiple times a day, and has other arbitrary behaviors occur once the main issue happens.
