  1. Please allow us to assign F# keys to Tools

I can assign the Function Keys to Panels, but not Tools in Illustrator, but I can in InDesign. I'm tired of accidentally typing a "v" when I want the Selection Tool in Illustrator. With InDesign, I've assigned the F1 key to the Selection Tool to avoid this, but I can't in Illustrator...why? Please allow!

  2. Add Axis Constraints, to restrict transformations to a chosen axis

Some 3D editors allow to limit moving to a chosen axis/axes.
3DS Max has a dedicated floating panel with buttons, and Blender allows to hold a key to force it: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/scene_layout/object/editing/transform/control/axis_locking.html

In Ai we can hold Shift, but the axis chosen depends on the position of the cursor, and it’s not the same.
Please make it possible to use X/Y keys (similar to the recent E key for Enclosed selection Mode) to actually choose a preferred axis. Perhaps Z can be used for 45°? :)

  3. Set Custom Scale based on artwork for Engineering Plans Measurements

I need to add measurements for lighting layouts, outlets, smoke detectors and fans on electric plans. The current measurement tool has a custom option but it's difficult to figure out the scale when it's 1:98 or 1:49. Trial and error gets frustrating and it's not always 100% correct.

**I need a way I could calibrate a custom scale like in CAD/Bluebeam. So, clicking two points and telling Illustrator that space between equals 4ft so it sets the scale for me. This would be more efficient. **

I know there are other programs I could do this in but I…

  4. Dimension Tool option that creates appropriate size lines, arrows, text, based on the art measured

I work within a wide range of sizes, from very small to very large. 9 times out of 10 I'll go to use the dimension tool and find that the lines, arrows, text, etc. are far too large or small. I'll then go through the tedious process of deleting the dimensions, taking a wild guess that the new input sizes will do the trick, and try again. I like all the detailed controls and don't wish for them to go away, but I'd love the option for a more intuitive sizing result based upon whatever I'm measuring. for example, if…

  5. Allow Figma-like zoom in and out on Mac with holding Cmd and moving 2 fingers instead of pinching

On a Mac to zoom in and out in Illustrator when no external mouse is connected we need to pinch together our fingers. That sucks and fingers hurt over time. In Figma I can just press Command and then move 2 fingers together (no uncomfortable pinching needed) to zoom in and out very quickly and precisely.

    Illustrator NEEDS this as well!
It's what I do all day long and it sucks really.

  6. Configurable Trim Marks

TL/DR: It would be incredibly helpful and relatively simple for AI's developers to let users configure the parameters of auto-generated trim marks.

I've been using AI for three decades and somehow, even though I have been doing this the hard way that entire time, it never dawned on me until today to request this: configurable Trim Marks, both in Object: Create Trim Marks and Effect: Trim Marks. This is similar to the following request except that that one doesn't include the why that I feel is important:
    https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/41926273-set-the-size-and-offset-of-effect-crop-marks-whi

AI specifically creates trim marks in one very specific way: .5" .3pt…

  7. Always Scale Proportionally when Shift Constraint is held using the Scale tool

Holding SHIFT to constrain scaling proportionally should always constrain as long as shift is held.

Using the Scale tool (s) if you hold shift and scale, you need to stay close to a 45 degree path when dragging in order to keep the proportions locked. Illustrator EASILY unlocks the proportionate scaling when the users deviates a small amount from 45 degrees. It's very easy to do as a user and the amounts can be small depending on the degree the user moves. So it's very very easy to accidentally scale something to almost proportional size such as w:100% h: 92%…

  8. Add advanced toolbar customization – icon direction, shape, and layout

I’m a long-time Illustrator user, and I’d love to see more customization options for the toolbar.

    Specifically, please consider allowing:
    1. Icon direction control (e.g., flipping the Pen Tool from "/" to "\")
    2. Alternate icon shapes (simple, minimal, or text-based modes)
    3. Full customization of toolbar layout, size, and colors
    4. Save/load toolbar presets for different workflows

This would help users with visual sensitivities or those who prefer ergonomic workspaces. It can also enhance accessibility for neurodivergent users. Thank you!

  9. Scale tool with value input and custom anchor

I'm not necessarily looking for a script—I’m just curious if a tool could be developed to enhance Illustrator’s Scale tool. Specifically, I’d love the ability to input a custom scale value (e.g., uniformly 125%, 100% height, 20% width, etc.) while also being able to position a custom anchor point, as currently available in the Scale tool.

I understand that the Transform Each function allows users to select individual objects, input values, and place an anchor point. However, this feature has limitations:

The anchor point can only be placed within the object's bounds.
To uniformly scale multiple objects, users must group…

  10. Path Eraser tool option to keep the path closed

Maybe while holding Opt/Alt, could be a good way to do it.

I often use the Pencil tool, especially Smooth option while holding Opt/Alt, to clean points when there are too many of them and it works well on curves but not on straight lines (they become wavy).
Sometimes I use the Path Eraser tool, but as its name tells it, it erases the path and then I have to select points and Ctrl+J to join. I just want an option to give us the choice to keep the path closed or not. It would require many less steps to…

  11. Add Units to Move Function

It would be great if when using the MOVE feature we could switch between UNIT types (Inches, Pixels, Points, etc...). For example, often we want the file in inches but to move in points.

  12. Add a 'Single Midpoint Anchor' Tool in Illustrator

Request: Add a tool or command that allows users to add a single anchor point precisely at the midpoint of any selected path segment without affecting the entire shape.

Why It’s Needed: Illustrator currently lacks an intuitive way to place an anchor point exactly between two existing anchor points. The "Add Anchor Points" command applies to all segments, and the Smart Guides often fail to indicate an accurate midpoint. Manually calculating coordinates is impractical.

    Suggested Implementation:

    • A new "Add Midpoint Anchor" option in Object > Path that works on a single segment.

    • A modified behavior in the Pen Tool (P)…

  13. Add an option for Curvature tool to prioritize the currently selected path

Curvature is one of the more recent tools Illustrator introduced (well, in 2014... time flies). Unlike older tools, it tries to be smart. One of this 'smart' behaviors is an ability to both select and edit paths. It prevents us from placing the next point of the currently selected path right above an existing unselected path — the tool treats it as an attempt to select the latter.

There is an existing request to tweak the continuation tolerance, similar to what Pencil has: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34578331

But to be fair, I’d love more options for the tool in general. So far it…

  14. Dimensions, auto select after creation

I find that i am always needing to change the defaults when using the Dimension tool, as frames of reference change from project to project.

I have started to develop a workflow where I'll just select the created dimension to adjust the text and line in Properties panel.

What would be more useful would be if the dimension was automatically selected after created, same behavior as most tools in Ai have, like crating a shape or a text.

The tool does not seem to pay any attention to what is selected when you are creating measurements, but if there is…

  15. Pen tool work flow

I use several Adobe products and the Pen tool’s work flow in Illustrator is terrible. A lot of functionality is separated into several different tools that could all be wrapped together into one beautiful tool. The Pen tool’s work flow within Photoshop works so much better! (Make a line, Add or subtract anchor points, Add or break curves, move an anchor point, move a line, rotate a selection of anchor points.) You can do all of this with the Photoshop version of the pen tool as one tools work flow. Within Illustrator you have to switch between a different tool…

  16. Problemas de Herramientas de Selección, Distrosión, Entre otras.

He usado Affinity Designers 2, Por temas empresariales comence a trabajar con Adobe illustrator... Encontre tantas herramientas que estan defasadas y no evolucionan..

    Primero:

  17. Allow to cut path with a drag rather than a click when using Scissors

I want the Scissors tool to be able to cut paths like the Knife does, with a click-and-drag, splitting a path at an intersection of straight/freeform (straight by default) drawn line with a path (ideally prioritizing selected ones over others, like requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/36111436)

I’m rather tired of seeing this loud modal dialog when I don’t have Smart Guides enabled and miss a line (because the tool doesn’t have enough feedback by modern times’ standards: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/44725546)

Take a look at the fake GIF I made to show how it should work.
A single click should still work.
    This…

  18. Make Split into Grid to create warped grids based on shape if needed

Split to Grid should learn how to split into more than just squares. Look at your Mesh tool, it obviously knows how to split different shapes, just move that code to the split tool would make it about 329983% more useful.

  19. Allow to copy the area value from the Info panel

Why can we copy a HEX color from the Color panel, but can’t copy the area of it (or any other value as well)?

In some cases we need to get the value to share with someone, and now Ai wants us to retype it.

Sometimes we also need these to be placed on canvas — but I think it’s a job for the Dimension tool? Why Measure and Dimension are different tools in the first place?

  20. Support architectural standards for arrow styles for Dimension tool

When the arrow style #21 is written on a drawing, it is marked inside the dimension extension line. International architectural drawing standards require that the mark be placed at the intersection of the extension line and the dimension line. Please improve this.
