Use Key Object to allow precise control for in-back and in-front level changes
Allow Key Object to define which object is moved and which object is used to define movement. If I select two objects and then highlight one as a key object, it would be nice to use the same hotkeys for "send to back" and "send to front" and have it only work in relation to the two selected objects, putting the keyed object either directly in front of or behind in the layer order of the other object.
As it is now, the hotkeys either work too much by sending objects all they way to the back or front, or too little by requiring a one layer change per use. On builds with many objects/layers this just feels inefficient and clumsy. Adding in the Key Object feature would allow users to have a second level of functionality and quickly place a layer exactly where they want it quickly, using a feature that is already in place to give them more precise control over object placement.

Sometimes I need to move something I already selected behind or above something else.
The current workaround would be to cut it, select the target object, use Paste in Front / Back command.
Using clipboard for this is evil, because putting stuff in it (especially if you have large images) is costly.What Ai could have allowed is to treat the key object as the target.
Select all you need with the object to put above/below, click it, call the normal Arrange command — voila.There’s a beautiful set of 2 free scripts developed long ago by Herman van Boeijen aka Nimbling, https://github.com/nimbling/Nimbling_Scripts — specifically 'Send behind…' & 'Bring in Front of…' that does a very similar thing — puts everything above the topmost or below the bottommost object, but using the key would be so much simpler, without guessing or looking what’s at the top.

Yes, I came here just to recommend a "send behind/bring in front of overlapping object" but key object makes much more sense.

I like it a LOT.
I have to Ctrl+X and Ctrl+F to simulate this in very inefficient way.
