text align vertically
Allow text to be vertically centered in text box.
In InDesign, there is an option in the text frame properties, "Vertical Justification", with a "Center" option.
Or, the "baseline shift" option could be split into either specifying a number, as it is now, or specifying "center in text box".
This option is very important sometimes, such as having a tag symbol (e.g. circle) with a label inside that is either 1 or 2 lines high. Right now I have to have 2 paragraph styles (1 for 1-line text and 1 for 2-line text) so the 1 line text is in the middle of the tag, but also the 2 line text is also centered in the tag.
This feature has been shipped in August 2020 release (version 24.3)

Vertical align to center as well! There are several different requests both here:
and on the forums:
These should be consolidated so we can get momentum on this!
I think that granting Illustrator the ability to vertically align text in an Area Type box would save me a considerable amount of time, especially if it works just like it does in InDesign, Quark, and CorelDRAW. This feature would save me from endlessly turning to the distribution alignment controls.

Allow full vertical aligment control for text boxes similar to indesign. The amount of time I waste bottom aligning text everytime I have to change a font size by hand in illustrator could have saved me years.
