Converting variable fonts and color fonts when saving
Periodic saving is a natural part of design work. Now when I periodically save I get to watch the 'wait bar' slowly slide by while it converts variable fonts and color fonts to objects. I DON'T even have any of those on my computer.
- Illustrator 22.0.1
- See above
- Shouldn't have to wait to convert something that doesn't need converting.
- See above.
- I don't have a file to upload. It happens on all files.
I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.3.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

This issue will stop when you unselect the "Create PDF Compatible File" in the Save dialogue window.

Hi everyone, a found a possible solution to this issue: Anyone try to save the file in 2020 format? In my case, I have a 2019 file, open it, working on it, and then save, at this point appears the msj "Converting text objects with variable fonts and colored". I re-save the file with other name but with the "2020" version (the latest) and the msj dissapears. I continue to try this option, feel free of try and comment.

I have the same issue in 2023 version and have seen it in prior versions as well. No live fonts in my file but saving takes 8x as long for no apparent reason.

I am beyond infuriated by this. I first tried to research this problem months ago and now i just live with it. How is it possible there is not a fix for this? I am not using variable fonts in this file. In fact, I NEVER use them because if it triggers this its not even remotely worth it.

I think this is a part of some OCR recognition in an image when is placed in Illustrator, attached the window with the msg

I also have this problem. I do often use variable fonts (activated through Adobe Fonts) but this happens whether I've used those fonts or not.

Same issue with the latest version of AI. Almost every time. No fonts used either. Simple files taking so long to save.

Since updating to Illustrator 26.5 some of my files can't be saved at all because Illustrator stalls during this progress. They need to be saved in PDF. None of my files has variable fonts or colored.
I'n using Mac.

This is a very annoying issue. Most of my files I don't have ANY text/fonts within them, and I still get the message. Please Adobe, fix this issue.

Yes, this happens when I create complex blends. Saving takes too much time. Saving on Creative Cloud helps, but I'd like to save on my desktop.

I just started getting this on 26.4.1.
Blowing a half an hour digging on this traced it to something completely not involving any text at all. It is reliably showing up when I place a path drawn with a certain pattern brush into a *distortion mesh* and distort it. If I use a different pattern brush it doesn't appear. Very strange.
No replication file to offer, unfortunately - I can't get the path displaying this weird behavior isolated into a single file, and now it's stopped happening.
Man this is gonna be a **** of a bug to track down.
