The current export defaults in the Export As dialog are rather frustrating. I always export with "Use Artboards" on; I'm confused why this is not the default. Also, I almost never want a suffix. Most of the time, in fact, I only have one artboard, so it doesn't make any sense to have a suffix, yet it is the default. In the vast majority of cases, I need to toggle on "Use Artboards" and toggle off "Suffix".

My proposal is to either a) change the defaults (such that "Use Artboards" is on by default and "Suffix" is off whenever a document has a single artboard) or b) allow the user to configure those defaults in the preferences.

Have never ever not checked this box. As you can tell by the comments, having it checked by default is wanted and needed.

The checkbox for "Export artboards" should be the default when exporting; that's why you're exporting. It is a common error to miss that and then you have to re-export. Wanting everything on 1 is the exception, not the rule.

AGREE! I wonder why this is not the default setting, instead exporting the whole work? I mean who use that default setting?

After hundreds or thousands of exports, I can't remember a single time that I needed to export anything outside of the artboard. The default should be to export the artboard with the option to de-select and export the entire project window.

So either switch the default or give some kind of option to save/lock that particular setting so I don't keep accidentally exporting my entire project instead of just the artboards.

But you also say 'preview'... the Export As method does not have one. You probably mean the second dialog, 'JPEG options' or 'PNG options'? This hardly makes little sense, since it’d also require to duplicate the naming options, the artboards options... And this process has to have a standard OS dialog to pick the name and the folder, in some way, followed my format settings... The team tried to swap them in Export for Screens, when we choose the settings firsts and then can pick the folder, and this method has a LOT of backlash from users.

So I think just making an option sticky is a safe enough solution, without duplicating anything anywhere.

When exporting using Export As menu it would make sense to have the checkbox for using the artboard on by default OR have an override in the second export window that allows to crop to the artboard.

Please include a feature where the Export settings from the previous save will be remembered when exporting another file so we don't have to constantly tick the 'Use Artboard' checkbox (meaning you would only need to hit this checkbox once) when exporting multiple files.

For someone who needs to export multiple artworks with different filenames and sizes, this will help me save a great amount of time. I'm sure there are many users out there who would benefit from this feature as well.

Which format do you refer to?
Export dialog has the Use Artboards option, but it can’t be applied to any format AI is capable of exporting to.

I'm working on a bunch of files that have artboard and every time I export things I have to remember to check "Use Artboards". Can this be made something that is able to be set as a default, or at least can the selection be remembered on a per-file basis based on the last export?
