Import Autocad (DXF, DWG) layers
When importing a file from Autocad, regardless of which version it’s saved as, the layers are not preserved and every object appears as a separate item under 1 layer. What a nightmare. I only purchased Illustrator to present our CAD drawings and it cant even do that properly, waste of money.
User interface is logicless and not at all intuitive, totally reliant on Youtube tutorial videos and web search solutions.

No,
The matter is not about Huge canvas, in a A4 std Artboard I get the same behavior.
all the DXF file comes in only one group on a single layer. -
Jean-Michel, am I getting this right: the layers stay separate if you import a DXF file using a normal canvas mode (but large files won’t fit), but all layers get flattened if you use a Large Canvas mode? Sorry, I just don’t have a large enough DXF file to test it myself. Can you show some screenshots to demonstrate the difference, just in case?

When importing a .dxf file in Ai it looses layers.
When opening regularly layers are showing, but as the DXF is huge, larger than default max artboard, I have to create a new file with large artboard, and next import my file. But in that case all the entities come on the same layer.
And in the regular opening DXF box the option Scale file to the Artboard should better be "scale the artboard" to file...
Many Thanks
