The latest Beta Build 29.3.0.2 now offers a way to calculate the area, using the existing Measure Tool.
- Select the Measure Tool from the Toolbar.
- Click on a closed path to calculate its area (for now it has to have a fill, so the area is actually ink coverage)
- The calculated area will be displayed in the Info panel, shown automatically.
- To calculate the total area of multiple paths, hold Shift and click.
- Configure measurement options by accessing the flyout menu of the panel. You can customize units, precision, and scale to suit your requirements.
The team is looking forward to hear the feedback on this new feature — please try it out and make comments.

It will be a pity now as we have measurements/dimensions in Ai to still need Cadtools…And in another hand, I’m not sure if that layers groups can be shown/hidden when the file is “placed/linked” in another one.
What is possible with PS Layer comps…Jean-Michel Le Goff supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedany update on this topic?
how many "Votes" are needed to get "on revision" status?
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedYes it's mandatory in many workflows.
the best would be the possibility of browsing through the different composition in the CreativeCloud viewer.
So when you share your file with people for reviewing you can expose / hide some elements but keep them in a single file.An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedYes, any news about this topic?
Should be needed to place textures in Dimension for example. An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedI agree,
Layer Comps in Ai like in PS could be really valuable.
I hope that it will be also available in the CreativeCloud asset viewer, so you can also share a document with multiple layer comp and ask the client to choose one or the other with only working on a single file.An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedIn fact, i would say, if layer composition make sense in Ps it SHOULD also works in Ai
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedI agree, it could also help when placing an Ai doc in Ps or InDD and active one composition or another to show different version of one single document.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedI completely agree,
In addition, this layer composition could be used in the export dialog box as option. You may use some layers for working and want to export only some layers for generate usable pictures/illustration.
It should also be key to have them in CC browser so when you share illustration for reviewing, people can active one composition or another...
So please, make this feature coming asap

An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedIt should also valuable if pattern shapes become smart rules and active helpers like it is for glyphs.
It may help to place more precisely patterns in a shape. -

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3
You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

It's gone for me tooAn error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented@Bradley,
Yes I know but for now here in France, we are still in 27.6An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedOups, I'm sorry but my CC Desktop app tell me that I am "up to date" but with a 27.6

Latest Beta Build 29.2.34 now allows to export into Ai and EPS formats via Export for Screens / Assets dialog.
Please try to test it and comment on if it works as you expect.
Exporting TIFFs requires more work. If you are interested in having this format included, please upvote this separate request.

There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47350001
All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedis it a way to move a graphic applied to a 3D shape?
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedHi,
I have an issue showing some custom properties of my sbsar in Ai.
I have a list of embeded textures in my material and a custom one which open an input field to load your own texture.
It works fine in Dimension, but in Ai the custom choice is present but it don't open the "input Field"
is it a bug, or a limitation y design? Many Thanks

Adobe Illustrator's Multithreading Journey Begins!
Dear Illustrator Community,
I'm thrilled to announce that we've embarked on an exciting journey to bring multithreading capabilities to Adobe Illustrator. This significant undertaking will enhance performance and responsiveness across various aspects of the application.
While this is a complex process that will take some time to fully implement, I wanted to share our progress so far.
Our Approach
We've strategically begun by focusing on the most computationally intensive operations—those that typically take more time and block the main thread, resulting in slower response times while you work. By moving these operations to separate threads, we aim to significantly improve your overall experience with Illustrator.
It's important to note that you may see more noticeable impact in some areas than others initially. However, we want to assure you that this is just the beginning, and we will continue this journey to bring improvements across…
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commentedHi,
At least, do the new 3D features like substance rendering could be multithreaded? As new add-ons,I guess that they can be optimized without compromising stability?Jean-Michel Le Goff supported this idea · -

it's working for me, but in the Scenario #2 it will be a little difficult to get the right area if you have to edit the shape and expand it to get the area, in the case of you are asked to create a shape of this given area...
