Hello everyone,
Lately we have been thinking about improving the snapping / smartguide experience on Illustrator and we need your help in this process.
Please spare us some time of yours where we can come together on a online meeting and discuss your needs and pain point around snapping.

No,
The matter is not about Huge canvas, in a A4 std Artboard I get the same behavior.
all the DXF file comes in only one group on a single layer.Jean-Michel Le Goff shared this idea ·

Hi,
Neither one ot the other works for me.
I really need a way to manage multiple onject as a single one but with entities on multiple layers. the analogy is Blocks in DXFs and (particularly DXF-ASTM)... when you have multiple patterns in a single document.
I found tha II can mimic this either by making a artboard by pattren, but it's not really convenient... or a master layer with sublayers for the different kind of entiies... but it's not really easy to do except using script But I don't code...

6 votesYou can enable Paste Remembers Layers in the panel’s menu to make Illustrator remember layers your objects were copied from and insert them on layers with same name when pasted. If these layers don’t exist, Illustrator will create them. Be careful and disable it when not needed, if might make a mess when not needed. Also note that with this option enable everything copied from an isolation mode creates a separate 'Isolation mode' layer, which is stupid — vote here if you think this should be addressed: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/37935496-paste-remembers-layers-bug-with-isolation-mode

As an option it could be fine to be able to generate one DXF by Artboard
And also very helpful, to have an option to save automatically in DXF format when saving the file in AI or PDF format

The latest Illustrator release - v29.3 now offers Area Calculation using Measure Tool:
- Select the objects in your artwork you want to calculate the area for.
- Select the Measure Tool from the Toolbar.
- The calculated area will be displayed in the Info panel, shown automatically.
- Shift + Click on a segment in the existing selection to remove/add it to area calculation.
- Configure measurement options by accessing the flyout menu of the panel. You can customize units, precision, and scale to suit your requirements.
Please update to v29.3 from your Creative Cloud Desktop application and keep sharing your feedback!

I agree, we need a little more
The area value need to be usable as variable text.Stop thinking Illustrator is only for « Illustration ».
Ils a true CAD software for many of usAn error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
Ok, I get it,
But nos, is there any way to copy this value in the clipboard and paste it as “text” ? Or could it be added in “dimension” as a label?
It could be useful for architectural floor map or for pattern design in fashionAn error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
oups,
can you share a snapshot?
I can't find it...
and could it be possible to generate a true measure in the document ?
at least is it possible to select and cut/paste the value in a text?
Many ThanksAn error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
it's working for me, but in the Scenario #2 it will be a little difficult to get the right area if you have to edit the shape and expand it to get the area, in the case of you are asked to create a shape of this given area...
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
could it be possible to get the area of a shape like it is possible to get the length in the "Object" tag of the information panel.

Could it be possible to keep the scale of a material when editing a 3D object?
I've noticed that the scale of a substance material (using 2D textures) may change when you edit the object...
Ideally, the best would also to apply this material at the same scale as defined in the Substance material as it is possible to define it.

The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.
The Previewed Page is now the default option for the dialog.
Here is an updated Help article:https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/importing-pdf-files.html
Congratulations, folks! Took us 5.5 years to get it!

@Egor
It will be a pity now as we have measurements/dimensions in Ai to still need Cadtools…And in another hand, I’m not sure if that layers groups can be shown/hidden when the file is “placed/linked” in another one.
What is possible with PS Layer comps…Jean-Michel Le Goff supported this idea ·

any update on this topic?
how many "Votes" are needed to get "on revision" status?
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
Yes it's mandatory in many workflows.
the best would be the possibility of browsing through the different composition in the CreativeCloud viewer.
So when you share your file with people for reviewing you can expose / hide some elements but keep them in a single file.An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
Yes, any news about this topic?
Should be needed to place textures in Dimension for example. An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
I agree,
Layer Comps in Ai like in PS could be really valuable.
I hope that it will be also available in the CreativeCloud asset viewer, so you can also share a document with multiple layer comp and ask the client to choose one or the other with only working on a single file.An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
In fact, i would say, if layer composition make sense in Ps it SHOULD also works in Ai
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
I agree, it could also help when placing an Ai doc in Ps or InDD and active one composition or another to show different version of one single document.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jean-Michel Le Goff commented
I completely agree,
In addition, this layer composition could be used in the export dialog box as option. You may use some layers for working and want to export only some layers for generate usable pictures/illustration.
It should also be key to have them in CC browser so when you share illustration for reviewing, people can active one composition or another...
So please, make this feature coming asap

Is it possible to show tangent lines when mouse over to allow the edition of an adjacent curve and use this tangent as a smart guides instead of (H/V or 45°)?
