C'mon adobe, it's 2020, make middle mouse click pan or add options to change hotkeys, PLEASE

These are standard navigation controls in many modern design programs, and it should be an option in Illustrator instead of the cumbersome and archaic Alt+Scroll to zoom and Space+Click to pan.

I would say Ai should have it as an option, indeed. This is a duplicate of existing request, but you still have my vote.
But if you are on Windows and want to have it possible before Adobe makes it real, I advise to use Autohotkey scripts, they allow these and many more.

Hi, I want to control the zoom in Illustrator and in InDesign with the mouse in the same way I can do it in Photoshop. Zoom in and out with the mouse wheel and panning by pressing the mouse wheel.

In Photoshop I just need one hand to use zoom and pan, which is the best alternative. All Adobe software should change the zoom and panning tools to work like in Photoshop. Why force us to use both hands to zoom and pan when it can be done with just one hand like in Photoshop? I is easier, more user friendly and more intuitive.

in my AI, ALT + scroll is panning to right/left, not for zoom again like in Photoshop, can you all help me?

I use this driver called X mouse button control where it allows us to remap any key board shortkeys to mouse . I have reset the pan to middle mouse button (panning only happens as long as the mmb is held down) and zoom in and out with scroll wheel only . If anyone can't figur out how to set it up then just drop a comment and I would love to help out . Adobe please include such options as default ,if not atleast as an option .

Alan, we share the same important vision!!! I'm a big Photoshop user, from 1.0, and when the scroll zoom became available, it literally changed my life. So much more efficient! I know by the capital letters you used above, you know exactly what I mean. So here's my attempt to get this, I don't know why it isn't an option already in the program SMH, passed through...

for someone that grow up with gimp, corel draw, blender etc etc. losing midle mouse button is huge drawback.

Adobe will never listen to its users. They're a bunch of snobby programming a-holes who think they know whats best for everyone else. Panning and scrolling with the "SCROLL" wheel should be universal.

Alt + scroll = zoom
spacebar + left click = pan.
I only found this after searching the exact same question! se3veral clues in this trread led me to this discovery.

@Adobe... Really nice feature is to conform to industry and/or YOUR Own standards across tools. We all use more than one of your programs. Being able to pan and zoom without having to change the tool you are using is an absolute must for most professionals. Saves HUGE amounts of time.

Please! this and a command line! Adobe needs to learn a lot with Autodesk, specially AutoCAD
