Width tool messes up the width points when a path is extended / shortened / cut
Maybe this feature exists already but I haven't been able to find it.
When using the width tool, it would be nice if you could "freeze" the width nodes in their position, so you could extend or shorten the path. Today the nodes adjust to the new length of the path, messing up all your previous work.

Take a look at two GIFs attached.
Black is how it behaves now.
Green is how we want it to be able to behave (a mockup of it).Sure, it means Ai would have to add more width markers to make the look stay the same...
...but then it means there should be a way to NOT add add extra markers, and it’s OK the outlines change — I personally would prefer this method. -

Yes, I totally agree! I made a post about this. Adobe needs to take action immediately!

I'd like to be able to choose whether the width variation on my line should be relative to the whole length (therefore redistributed when the line gets longer, as happens now) or locked to the curve points on the line, so they remain as set when I add to the end of the line. I keep having to go back and re-set my widths.

Whenever you edit (extend it, shorten it, cut it in two) a path that has width points it completely messes up all the width points along that path.
For example: You spend 30 minutes on creating a calligraphic text using the width tool, but you change your mind and want to cut the path somewhere. Then the width profile is messed up and you have to start over from scratch creating new width points along the entire path.
PLEASE make it possible to "lock" the width points/profile so you can cut a path, extend or shorten it with the pen tool without messing everything up.
