Improved 3D effects and Adobe Substance materials
We have introduced new and improved '3D and Materials' effects in 26.0 this year. These effects have been fully rebuilt using modern rendering technology and apart from being much more stable than classic 3D effects, they also allow you to:
* Apply and edit 3D effects conveniently through a non-blocking panel with real time preview.
* Texture artwork using Adobe Substance 3D materials that are highly adjustable. Choose from built-in materials in the panel or upload your own.
* Light up artwork with environment and directional light along with shadows.
* Create smooth and curvy extrusions using the new Inflate option.
* Rotate artwork more easily using the new on-canvas controls.
* Once you've setup your 3D object, render it using Ray tracing with adjustable quality options.
There are more features we're actively working on bringing to these effects. Please share your feedback and suggestions from your experience of using these new effects.
There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:

All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.

Please include a flat lighting/no lighting option to the new 3D engine.

The shadow border ist to small in my opinion. It crops shadow of I objects I wouldnt consider as big.

Yes, for now the 3D & Materials panel does not allow to edit values for multiple selected objects.
I am sure it happens because they have different fills and thus are treated as different appearances. The team is aware of it.Then, you can make the Eyedropper tool to pick and apply the style, if you enable 'Appearance' options in the tool’s option. This would also sample all other appearance attributes you can see in Appearance panel.
Finally, there is an existing request to have basic animation in Illustrator you can upvote: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34505962
There is another one, specifically about SVG animation: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/42216685
As you can see, the vote count is not that high...
So it’d help immensely if you upvote stuff rather that just comment (in rather unrelated topics). Please do! -

You can select several separated objects and turn them into 3D. Say you inflate them. But then you can't apply to all of them the same parameters such as light source, metallic... Furthermore it would be nice to be able to use the Eyedropper to copy 3D appearances!
Last but not least: Illustrator needs rudimental ANIMATION TOOLS. Something to do frame by frame, tweening and such. Photoshop has animation, InDesign has Animation and Illustrator, the strongest app doesn't? Yeah, there's Animate and AF but do I need to open 10 apps for something fast and easy? -

When I click on the extured option in the 3D materials, my drawing loses its color and lines and does not become 3D.

Hi,
I had some feedback about the Ai integration, I tried performing some geometric operations on basic shapes and got some interesting results. it would be good if you could have an option on the ai interface so that you could remove the art generation aspect.
so that it would be more of a useful tool for professionals need todo things split a logo into 30 parts to animate into a firework.

If you have a request or a bug report about 3D and Materials — try to search for existing ones and upvote them, or make a new report or request, as a separate entry. This will help the team to prioritize efforts.

Just noticed that when using the new 3d workspace, mapped graphics get distorted way more than in the classic workspace. For example, I wrapped a logotype around a cylinder > type now looks like it was livetraced. Compared to doing the same thing in the classic workspace resulted in more accurate type.

Why doesn't perspective work anymore in 3D/extrude. So many basic things are full of bugs these days!

Would love an option for no lights to create a flat vector look (similar to cel/toon shading, or 100% emissive or just the base color, no shading) since that's generally the look that I want when working in illustrator.

@Tay Jing Ni :
Lighting Widget would be only visible if you have GPU present on your machine. If no GPU is present then you will not be able to control the lighting via widget. -

I do not have the lighting option (the ball for you to add your lightsource and move it around) why is it that i restarted, rested and uninstalled illustrator but its still not showing up???? is there anything i can do to fix it? i really need that option.

Hi. The new 3D engine is a great improvement. But, what I find wanting is the ability to have more control over the mapping methods on the 3D geometry. For instance, what I think should be a simple spherical mapping to create a 3D Earth, in one part of the mapped symbol, it gets heavily distorted (probably where the mapping seam is?).

i can't expand 3D type for print file. please fix it.

MoonMan, is it good or bad for you? Anyway, Ai gives access to both, you can use whichever one.

Please improve wireframe rendering of 3D Extrude. It's nowhere near the quite basic shape it's based on!
