Improved 3D effects and Adobe Substance materials
We have introduced new and improved '3D and Materials' effects in 26.0 this year. These effects have been fully rebuilt using modern rendering technology and apart from being much more stable than classic 3D effects, they also allow you to:
* Apply and edit 3D effects conveniently through a non-blocking panel with real time preview.
* Texture artwork using Adobe Substance 3D materials that are highly adjustable. Choose from built-in materials in the panel or upload your own.
* Light up artwork with environment and directional light along with shadows.
* Create smooth and curvy extrusions using the new Inflate option.
* Rotate artwork more easily using the new on-canvas controls.
* Once you've setup your 3D object, render it using Ray tracing with adjustable quality options.
There are more features we're actively working on bringing to these effects. Please share your feedback and suggestions from your experience of using these new effects.
There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47350001
All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.

there should be a possibility to "save" lightings in a 3D scene. I have multiple objects in one document (with different facing directions) and I have 3 different light sources. there's no "global lighting" - instead I have to select every single object and change the lighting settings.

@Michael Raahauge
Are those Custom Materials which you added by yourself? If yes then it is expected, First you need add the same material in another after that it will work. -

When I try to use the 3D effects it shoes a message of error. What does it mean?
Send you the screenshot of the message bellow -
Yes, Erik, you are correct. The direction the developers chosen for the modern effect is switched — it goes clockwise. The Classic Revolve goes counter-clockwise.
At the moment there is no option to switch the direction. However, the team is aware of this.
Thank you for raising this up here! -

Why is the result different for the Revolve and Revolve(Classic) effect when the input parameters are the same?
Input parameters are:
Revolve Angle = 180°
Offset = 100px
Offset direction from = Left Edge
X = -20°
Y = 0°
Z = 10° -
Matthew, at the moment — no, customized materials can’t be saved as presets.
The only workaround Ai allows today is to save the whole appearance of the object as a graphic style, with the Graphic Styles panel. A style also includes all other parameters of the effect: rotation, extrusion depth, light settings...
I am finally making a separate feature request about saving presets for this effect and will add you as a voter when it’s done, including all other users who mentioned it here in this thread. -

Could we get the ability to save existing materials we modify with settings?
(If we change the color and roughness of, say, the "Handmade rice paper" material and wanted to save those changed settings into a material preset so we can quickly apply the modified material to multiple 3D objects)

Not all 3D tools work in Illustrator

The preview is always pixelated unless I click on the effect window.
After I click on the effect window it looks better but it still looks pixelated.
When I expand as wireframes the letters 'O' and 'U' get distorted, It's not an accurate representation of the cylinder shapes I was expecting.
Although I appreciate the materials revamp, this effect used to work much better in previous versions as the basics worked.
I hope you fix this asap.
Thanks. -

When I want to use the effect to make a font 3D, I get this error "An error occurred while processing the appearance of an object". Can you help me how to fix it?

The modell to turn (from classic mode) is missing!!!

- solid fill with wire frame would be nice (as opposed to full x-ray with wireframe)
- taper (draft) both towards and away
- smarter conversion to wireframe (for graphics) -

Incorporation of classic extrude is needed. The new 3D does not expand the shapes into separate elements like it used to. I can no longer create simple things like isometric objects and expand them so that I can modify things like colour. The only option I get when I expand appearance is a useless wireframe. Yes, it can be done through the Classic 3D option but why not just have one feature that is working well. Seriously Adobe.

Can't rotate multiple 3d objects together where the alignment stays correct - they tend to skew and you have to do it one by one but its very tedious

Bonjour,
Peut-on masquer l'arrière plan lorsqu'on est en "Géométrie invisible" ?
Peut-on faire varier la transparence d'un graphisme importer sur un objet 3D ? Merci -

Very nice features.

I am getting ghost lines in my graphic in vector mode, that are not part of my design. They stay there when exporting as either image or PDF.
I've tried playing with essentially all render and raster settings within the 3D & Materials tab, and I'm stumped.
I don't know what information I need to provide to be useful as reporting an issue, but this is a fairly debilitating issue for me. Kind of breaks the whole process if it starts drawing random extra lines around the image.

Yerba, the Lighting tab of the 3D and Materials panel get activated only when you have an effect already applied to the object.
And as for the moment, it does not allow to adjust settings when you have several objects with the effects selected simultaneously — if their settings even slightly differ. Is it the case?
Same goes for the Properties for materials section.(Edited by admin) -
