As noted in the core report, the fix available in Prerelease build now, starting with 29.8. Preferences should no longer change some specific values when the Search field has anything in it. The next general build should have this fix included.

Yes, in fact. I never mess with this. Ever. Why would it change? What are the default settings?

Ok, disregard the Ruler Display Error. Somehow, during the multiple attempts to save the file as shown in the screen recording, the file was enlarged beyond the actual 24" x 36" artboard size. Meaning, everything (artboard and artwork) was scaled up to the maximum allowable size within Illustrator, and I couldn't resize it. But the zoom in/out bug persisted.

While I was going to just post about the one issue of the latest version of Illustrator (v 29.7.1) not properly showing that a file has been successfully saved by removing the asterisk from the file name in the file tab, I discovered that while recording the error, now the zoom in/out keystroke doesn't work and in addition the ruler display has an error. Starting with Beta 29.7.1 the Rearrange dialog got a separate dedicated feature, currently called 'Align Manually'.
With it disabled, artboards get positioned instantly in the center of the canvas, as it behaved previously.
When this is enabled, you will enter the positioning mode after pressing OK — to allow rearranging only some artboards, to address this request.
With more than 1 artboard selected (but not all), the mode gets enabled automatically (and becomes locked).

This new "feature" needs to be optional for those who requested it. Currently, the default behavior is causing inconsistent total program freezing and failure (force quit is the only way to close the program), and I am unable to determine specifically what is causing it. I have tried multiple steps to ensure it always happens, but it is proving to be troublesome. At any rate, here is a screen recording of what IS happening with version. 29.6.1: https://nic.box.com/s/xkhspdorjw4a8umhepx5p63o64bm4o67

Yes, this is still a bug that literally happened to me yesterday with both Illustrator and Photoshop open. As soon as I closed Photoshop, the flickering in Illustrator stopped. And it's not a mac OS thing.

This is still an issue with the latest releases of Illustrator and Photoshop. We shouldn't have to close Photoshop to have the behavior disappear. See my screen capture today attached or on Box.com: https://nic.box.com/s/hemehrwzo9fm0ye3evst9ma41x908ipp

I originally posted this in Community Forums for ver 26.1.
The frustrating behavior is back in ver 26.4.1 and I am also using Illustrator on my iMac.

Hi Ankit! I didn't need to. I just did this: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/illustrator-v25-0-won-t-start-but-here-is-a-possible-solution/td-p/11619537?page=1

I just found out that the thread that was the best for figuring this out was locked by an Adobe employee. So I started a new one but not before I tried something new: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/illustrator-v25-0-won-t-start-but-here-is-a-possible-solution/td-p/11619537?page=1

Thanks @Egor Chistyakov. However, I never used the search feature with the preferences window nor put any values in the search field. The settings of 0.1 and 0 were just there upon Illustrator startup.
