This is a strange option and differs from ID with placed .psd layers. (and Psd with placed illustrator smart artboard layers) which both remain linked.

    • In Indesign the individual placed layers from Photoshop are linked and update when changed.

    • In Illustrator placing a linked document now only places a flattened version of the .PSD file and NOT the layers. If you want to place individual PSD layers you have to de-select 'link' when placing in Illustrator.......BUT then they're embedded rather than linked and when you subsequently then link them in Illustrator it creates new individual layer documents which AREN'T your original PSD file.

You end up with multiple files and individual layer files.

This is a convoluted mess, why didn't Adobe just stick with the place options from Indesign which work fine......or the placed smart/linked illustrator artboard files option in Photoshop which are both options that allow a two way communication between the apps.

3 different pieces of software from the same company......and 3 different place methods with differing options!

I simply want the brush to work like the pencil tool manages to do when 'new art has basic appearance is set' in the submenu options.

This tool currently uses the last brush used regardless of the 'new art has basic appearance' settings.

If you create a new document and use the brush tool the set 'basic appearance' is a 5pt round calligraphic stroke....when you select 'new art has basic appearance' any subsequent new stroke should be a 5pt round calligraphic strok, not the last brush used.

Please include these as per the desktop version so as to keep the same consistency and the same work PRODUCTIVITY.

These simple things make ipad Illustrator a frustrating no-go to me while unfortunately being such a STEP-BACKWARDS in comparison to the desktop and general productive useability.
