How important is this to you?

The intended way of setting a default font is to edit document profiles. These files are located in folders like 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2023\Support Files\Required\New Document Profiles\[language]\' on Windows and 'Macintosh HD > Applications ▸ Adobe Illustrator 2020 > Support Files > New Document Profiles > [language]' on Macs.

Make a copy of the one you want to use someplace else, open it in Illustrator, make your changes, replace the original and then use it when creating a new file.

There are many tutorials on the web about managing these, like this one: https://productivista.com/new-document-profiles-saves-your-default-settings/

However, this way indeed is not the most discoverable. Please continue to vote and leave comments if you want this to be improved.

    Dear users,

Can you please let us know what is that you cannot do with the existing 'save selection' functionality that you expect to do by grouping objects from different layers?

'Save selection' enables you to combine objects from different layers without having to bring them into one single layer.

To use 'save selection' just select your desired objects and save the selection from the select > save selection menu command or from the bottom of the layers panel.

Hi, the answer to what we cannot do is simple. We cannot ungroup grouped objects to the layers they where were before grouping.

What is asked is to reproduce what we can do in InDesign. In ID, we can group objects from different layers, and in the layers panel we have the option to ungroup keeping the original layers, or not.

An application fort which we pay a substantial subscription should not harass us with marketing and publicity. Showing new options at first launch is fine. But once we know that it exists, we should be able to turn it off.
